Quest for the Masks: Ko-Wahi: Nice to find caches on foot for a change. #1 on our tour. My daughter was quite embarrassed when one of her friends walked by: 'Dad, what will I say to explain why we're in the bushes?' My reply: 'Just crouch down, she won't see you!' She didn't. Thanks.

Quest for the Masks: Ga-Wahi: #2 on our quest. Along the way we enjoyed taking a close look at the new lagoon water suppy access gates, and the wading birds poking around at a low, low tide. TFTC.

Quest for the Masks: Ta-Wahi: #3 on our trek. I left the kids at the playground while making the find. Oh, they did come over for a peek in the container after I found it. Thanks.

Quest for the Masks: Onu-Wahi: #4 on our trek. We followed the fence line. High and dry for the most part. Hopefully we didn't disturb anyone. TFTC.

Shorebird Sudoku: 2TF @ 9:30a. Thanks for the fun puzzle in a beautiful park!

Vladimir has been kidnapped!: FTF!!! 12:30pm; That's a puzzle I can understand. Very nicely done! Thanks.

Embarcadero Bug Depot: Fun little trek, nicely hidden. The rain was washing off the trees in tea colored drops, which caused some commotion among the little guys, since they assumed it was something else. We swapped TBs. Thanks.

Needless Mark-up: Quite busy, but we managed. In any case, everybody seemed pretty intent on their own objectives. TFTC.

Cornelis Bol Park Booty: Deserted on a rainy afternoon; That's a bold hide! The boys enjoyed climbing the nearby tree. Thanks.

Tear Down This Wall!: This cache has got to be one of my most interesting urban finds. Too cool. I'd love to know how they ended up here. Thanks!

Diversity: We snagged this cache in the rain. Lotsa puddle stomping along the way for the little guys. Thanks!

December 21, 2005

Open 24 hours: I had a lot of help too! Great twist on an old standby. TFTC.

December 20, 2005

Spirit Trap: 3TF. 8:30am Thanks for recycling the spot. Archived GCH9V6 did have a bit bolder hide though. A double deja vue (is that possible?) since I was third on the old one just over 2 years ago. IIRC, Kablooey was FTF and bthomas was second. Somethings don't change...much. TFTC.

December 19, 2005

The Five Senses: HEARING: FTF! 8:30am It took a bit of searching on a completely still morning, but I finally found the well concealed cache. I'm sorry to admit it, but shaking branches and bumping into things did me no good as the find was made entirely with visual clues. I did experience the 'Freeway Trees' however. That's very interesting actually. Thanks for a fun hunt! I took the TB, but left the gift card.

December 14, 2005

Brume: Thanks for the lunch time diversion. Gorse control looks like back-breaking work! It was a bit hazy today, but the views are always worth a million bucks in this park. TNLNSL.

December 12, 2005

Pulgas Parking: The GPSr was coughing and sputtering, but the hint clarified things for my mental directional arrow. TFTC.

Off The Leash - A Kid's Cache: So that's what those signs are for! T: wipe, since I poked around in a different spot with grey leafless branches that were probably PO. L: a christmas geocoin. Thanks (unless I get a rash)!

Woodside Hills Cache: 2TF Whew! Tough access. I got within 0.15 mi from the north, but I figure the neighbors wouldn't have appreciated me walking through their yard. So, after taking a very long detour around to the south, and getting lost several times in a maze of long, winding dead end streets, I knew I was close when I saw the distinctive fence mentioned in the FTF log. Finally! Nice view, and nice little walk. TNLNSL. Thanks!

For the Love of the Game: 6:00pm Co-FTF with UncleTom. I knew this one would go fast, and sure enough, somebody was tailing me as I pulled into the parking lot. We double-timed it over to the cache site, and then fumbled around for a few minutes. Ahhh, there it is. Thanks!

December 10, 2005

Baylands, Then and Now: I dropped my daughter off at choir practice and then realized my GPSr was still at home . Fortunately I remembered enough from reading the cache page to make a find. The attachment device is indeed separated from the cache, which I found on the ground. However, by placing the attachment device inside the container, I was able to return it to the intended spot.

Ravenswood Trail: Inspired by MotorBug and Digitalfish, I found this cache without a GPSr. (Actually I just forgot it at home.) I felt fortunate to find a 'wild' geocoin, which will bring christmas cheer to another cache quite soon. Thanks!

Bay Crossing: With a little time to kill this morning, I thought I'd make a second attempt on this cache. Bingo. TNLN.

December 9, 2005

"Da Plane, DaPlane": Wow! Lotsa traffic for the first day! I've driven by many times by never stopped until now. Funny how a cache will do that! Thanks.

Lizard Chick's Espresso Society Cache: Pleasant morning hunt with Uncle Tom. Waypoints 1 & 2 went lickity split, but we circled the block before finding #3. With the final coordinates in hand, we decided to walk to the cache instead of returning to our cars. That turned out to be a good decision, and also gave us time for a nice chat. It took a bit of work to find the final, but that's only because we couldn't see what was right in front of our eyes. TNLNSL. Thanks for the tour of downtown San Mateo!

December 2, 2005

Nar of Nat: Thanks for placing a new cache at this spot! If I remember correctly, prior to renovation there was one velcro'd underneath a plaque by the statue, and hidden by overgrown bushes. My final coordinates were off a bit, but got me close enough that the hide was clear. Sorry I didn't have a little zip-lock with me, or else I would have taken care of the moisture problem for you. As it stands, the log is starting to dry out, and you should be able to continue to use it. TFTC!

Above and Below: That strange wording (at least to me!) in the first sentence really threw me off. 'It's got to be a hint', I thought, and spent a long time trying to connect it to the puzzle. At last, inspiration came, and the coords were in hand about 30 seconds later. Thanks!

November 29, 2005

Somewhere in Los Altos Hills: I had to make a trip to SJC this morning, and was lured off the freeway by this cache. Perhaps it was just the time of day, but I sure felt like I was walking through somebody's backyard. I half expected to turn around and find a guy in a bathrobe sipping coffee on his deck and eyeing me suspiciously. In any event, nothing like that happened, and I found the cache after a nice little walk. The ground next to the cache was littered with orange peels; probably some kids playing explorer or something. Looking at the cache page after the fact, I realize that I probably walked right by a puzzle cache. Grrrr. I guess I should download those to my gpsr more often! Thanks!

November 26, 2005

A caching marathon with John & Ted.

Old Oaks, New Trail: Wow! Lots of change here since our last visit. Started our on the new trail from the new parking lot. Shortly thereafter made a course correction, but spent awhile wondering about the new trail thing. Ahhh, there it is. Great views and a fun walk! Took a couple of things, left a $2 bill. TFTC.

The Five Senses: SIGHT: We came; We SAW; we found! FUN! TFTC.

The Motherlode #3 - Monarchs of the Forest: This is still my favorite trail discovered while geocaching. Back for a third visit, I'm sure there will be more. Thanks for the excuse to refresh and relax once again!

November 24, 2005

Harbor View: A pre-Thanksgiving stroll to stretch our stomachs. I expected more of a struggle to find the cache, but walked right up to it. Thanks!

My First Cache in Taiwan!
Nan-ying Tsung-yeh Arts and Cultural Center : I am visiting Taiwan from California for business at the Tainan Science Park. Fortunately, I was able to convince a couple of my collegues that geocaching might be fun, and they drove me to the cultural center for the hunt. Since it was their first time, I let them use the GPSr and experience the thrill. We found the first stage with no trouble, and then enjoyed a very nice lunch-time walk to the final location. Hopefully I've created a lasting interest in Geocaching for them! We signed the log, and I took the TB, but am feeling a little guilty since I didn't have one to trade. Sorry. Finally, thanks to the cache owner for information about the location and a map. Geocachers really are a great bunch! Thanks!

November 11, 2005

Ravenswood Fishing Pier: Deserted, probably because the tide was out and there was no water underneath the coordinates. Nice warm-up prior to a little hike. TFTC.

Bay Crossing: This was an enjoyable DNF. As I scrambled underneath a variety of structures that appear to be in serious need of a sesmic retrofit, I thought to myself, 'Please don't let the big one happen right now!' BTW, the mud has pretty much dried out, but I would not advise a trip out here once the wet weather sets in.

In honor of Charlie Brown: I approached the scene to find NS&Mrs there for a second try. While they were searching, I dealt with a couple of neighbors who were intensely interested on what was going on. Since that's one more muggle encounter than my limit, it was time to move on. I see from recent logs that the coords were off a bit.

November 10, 2005

Pizza: NOT on the Menu: 2TF! 5:50p. When I noticed this cache appear, I hopped right on it, but was about 10 minutes behind another un-Event regular, Bodie. Thanks for the acknowledgment; it's been fun to hang out with everyone at these gatherings. As long as there's good company, I'll eat pretty much any kind of pie, except, of course, the dreaded pickle relish and creamed corn pizza. TFTC.

November 9, 2005

Its Spring: Got it! Nothing to reminisce about for me, but I do like to drink spring water. Unfortunately, all of it comes from a bottle purchased at the store. That's just the way it is these days, I guess.

Journey to the Moon: Sometimes gravity just places you in the right spot. That's what happened to me on this cache, since I was convinced it was located elsewhere. Very nice. TFTC.

Legend of the Blue Pearls: The Beginning: Fortunately the groundskeeper and the dog walkers were intent on other things. Thanks!

Legend of the Blue Pearls: Lost Souls: This cache had me befuddled for awhile. I enjoyed the peaceful morning walk; nothing spooky for me! TFTC.

Legend of the Blue Pearls: Beckoning: I enjoyed sitting on a sand dune after signing the log. Quite peaceful. Thanks for showing me the inviting spot!

Legend of the Blue Pearls: Marguerite's Margaritas: Nobody was around to care if I parked in the restaurant lot, and I enjoyed the 'challenging' (read 'scenic') path to the cache. An interesting perspective on a place I'd visited before. Thanks!

Legend of the Blue Pearls: Man Overboard: With low tide, there were plenty of birds to look at. Fascinating! Duck, here comes the harbor patrol. TFTC.

Legend of the Blue Pearls: Fishtrap: I made this cache harder than it had to be, and ended up exploring quite a ways on either side of the object of interest. Actually the walk was quite interesting, thanks! Eventually, a lifeline straightened out my lack of perspective, but I had to contend with a fellow who had rowed his dory to a nearby spot and commenced maintainance. Since he was determined to ignore me, things turned out okay. Very nicely done.

Legend of the Blue Pearls: I enjoyed the walk to the final cache, and although I'm a bit acrophobic, enjoyed the views along the way. Finding the cache was a challenge, and when I had examined the easier hiding places, again 'phoned a friend' for encouragement. The picturesque hide soon revealed itself, and my thumping heart gave me the satisfying rush of adreniline that I craved. Really, it's nothing dangerous; I'm just a wuss. Thanks for a very enjoyable series.

November 5, 2005

Los Gatos Creek Park Fall Picnic: Talking, food, caches. Oh, I forgot...coins. Perfect! Thanks!

One Year: We were another party in the group expdedition. The dam and bridge were really interesting. Thanks!

Typha Latifolia: I zeroed out right on top of spot it was eventually found, but didn't see the cache. John (5) took a short tumble, but bounced up, proclaiming, 'I'm okay!', and he was. Whew! Craw found it. Nice job!

November 3, 2005

Back To This Park: 5:30p Whew! This one was tougher than I thought it would be. Even though it was dusk, there were people everywhere: walking dogs, working in the drive-way, coming home from work...I got the evil-eye from several of them. I spent quite awhile pawing around in the wrong place, and then walked right up to it. TFTC.

What In The World Is Going On?: Wow! It's been a long time coming. Thanks for all the adventures and good memories. What a trip!

November 2, 2005

Z's Favorite #1: Second visit! Thanks for humoring a cranky cacher and switching things around. There was a significant amount of work that went into the design of this multi, and it really is worth the trip! The views were great today, and I enjoyed the perspective from the new final hide. TNLNSL.

The Hills Are Alive: I enjoyed my second visit to this part of Pacifica. I spent a while over at the nearby bench taking in the views. Thanks for the bonus cache. TNLNSL.

Just a little wooden bridge: Fourth @ 6:30p. Not for arachnophobes! Thanks for the stroll; I enjoyed the lights shimmering on the lagoon.

October 30, 2005

Bev-Mo Park: Well, you don't have to step off the path if you're Yao Ming, but, as the sticker in the cache container says, "NO WHINING", so I won't. Thanks for the smilie.

Cedar Street Park: After figuring out the set-up, I probably should have left this cache for another time: The park was packed with families enjoying a beautiful Sunday morning. Unfortunately, I didn't, which was fine...until the time came to put it back. I had to have one of the kids come over by the hide so that I could pretend to tie his shoe. Actually, I'm pretty proud of myself for thinking of this ruse. Thanks for showing us this park. We'll be back!

October 29, 2005

Hot Wheels: I woke up this morning and thought to myself, "Okay, today is the day!", since this cache has been on my nearest page for about 2 years now. After finishing the trek, I'm sorry I waited so long, although the terrain was quite challenging. Thanks for the great down and up(!) and down once again(!!) adventure.

October 28, 2005

Totally Buggin': A quick find out of sight from people spending their lunch break in the parking lot. Why don't they get out and take a walk??? Well, at least their sedentary ways made my job easier. Thanks!

Castaway: I knew what it had to be, but still couldn't come up with the goods. Thanks for the stroll and the views though.

The Guy-y Cache: I found the cache partially buried in excavated dirt. Some sort of buried cables are being placed in a trench that runs literally a couple of feet from its hiding place. It suprising to me that the workers didn't notice the cache. I tried to hide it better, but it's still uncomfortably close to the work site.

Redwing: No birds today, but I enjoyed the hike all the same. Thanks!

Cool Cache View: A great view of the bay and planes on approach. I see a lot of the same over in my neighborhood on the other side of the bay, but never tire of it. Thanks!

Oyster Rustler's Point: I enjoyed exploring this stretch of the bay front. It looks like some sort of development is starting up nearby. I'm kind of confused about what the boundries of the park actually are. Thanks!

Cardiac Stretch: Thanks for showing me this great walking trail. Plenty of people out enjoying the mild temperatures on a Friday afternoon. I searched for a while, but the flowers on the bushes have gone to seed, and every time I would poke around in there I'd get a seed bath. Yuck! Still, as others have mentioned, I'm suprised I couldn't spot the cache. Thanks!

CITO Cache - San Leandro: I found the cache just sitting there in the weeds with 3 CITO kits and a damp log book. I tried to hide it better, but given the container's size, it was tough.

Marina Park - Northern Micro: Dogs and their owners, a soccer game, and plenty of people out getting some exercise (including me!). Thanks.

South of Marina Park - Southern Micro: The caches in this park are on my nearest page, so I though I better make the trek accross the bay and check things out. Thanks!

Wonder how you get there?: 3TF. I love the things you see while caching: So, I'm walking along and here comes a small hawk carrying a large rabbit. The rabbit is kicking and squirming like crazy. It's so heavy, and the motions are so vigorous that the hawk can't hang on and stay in the air. So the hawk drops the rabbit...onto the highway. In its fright, the rabbit runs into the tunnel. Five seconds later, I hear a loud WHACK! Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire! Oh, I found the cache too. Thanks.

October 26, 2005

Spooky Spooky Halloween: FTF! 8:32pm I haven't had the urge to go for a FTF for quite some time, but when this one came up, I knew I would probably have to be fast! It was definitely creepy in the dark with plenty of night noises and steep unfamiliar terrain. I was starting to despair, but suddenly there it was. Victory! TFTC.

October 25, 2005

Dead End: I got startled by a couple of muggles out walking their dog, so I palmed the cache and continued on down the street a bit. Nicely done!

Sunday, October 23, 2005

October 23, 2005

BJ's Space Cowgirls: I was expecting to find the cache site quiet and deserted. Wrong! There was a whole bunch of people involved in the space elevator competition milling about accross the way. TFTC.

Charleston Stormpumps: I was out on a caching expedition with my 'pair'. Thanks for the nicely stocked box. We traded, and then played on the rings. TFTC.

October 22, 2005

Relax for Awhile #2: A quick find on a late afternoon caching run. TFTC.

Littler House at the Park: Rough, rough, rough, ahhhh...smooth. One of the best parks around, we used to play here all the time before moving further north. TFTC.

Papua New Guinea Grove: A very cool place! It was quite busy on the Farm today: Football and homecoming I think. Thanks.

C or N?: I needed a lifeline, but had it a few minutes after that. How could anyone see the 'C' first? Quite a few cyclists passing by, not a single one walking that bike. TFTC.

Duck!: Very happy to have DNF'd this one the other day. This time I followed WoW...you know what that means: I finally collected one of those sig tokens. TFTC!

Friday, October 21, 2005

October 21, 2005

Heron's Head Park: After aborting an ill-conceived plan to cache in the east bay, I ended up here. (What was I thinking trying to cross the Bay Bridge late on a Friday afternoon???). The place I found was a very pleasant suprise! Upon arrival at the cache site, I interrupted a pair of aspiring artists that were engaged in self-expression on those granite blocks with a sharpie marker. They were curious about my GPSr, and once I explained things, they watched me search a bit. Shortly, the 'drawing' was done, and they departed. I had actually spotted it earlier, but decided not to pull it out until they left. Caches 28; Days 18. TFTC.

CalTrain - 22nd Street: A sooty find. I actually never spotted the train station. TFTC. Caches 27; Days 18.

Houseboat Hangout: Heck, yes, I'd live there! Thanks for the 3 hour...err...15 minute...tour! Caches 26; Days 18.

October 19, 2005

Ravenswood Trailhead: Thanks for pointing out this neglected stretch of bayfront. I took a professional interest in the chemical plant nearby. Those are some serious distillation columns! I didn't recognize the name of the company though, so I'm not sure what they're doing. TFTC. Caches: 36; Days: 21.

View with a Bridge: Great hike! RR really was in a hurry to get home last night! I found the cache container in plain sight. Either that or the hide has disturbed someone's home. I did see a few marsh rats on my way out there. The view of the old bridge was very cool. TFTC! Caches: 35; Days 21.

Marsh Catwalk: Guano Gauntlet has been "out-planked"! Thanks for the adventure. I got a chuckle out of your stash note! Perhaps you should mention that removal of this cache is 'subject of civil and criminal prosecution' as well! Caches 34; Days 21.

Baylands Bridge: Approached from an EPA access point, which saved a few tenths. It was a uprisingly busy area. Thanks! Caches 33; Days 21.

(#2) Day St Park: Whew, plenty busy on a late afternoon, so I just marched up to it like it was my business to be there. Same story when I returned it. Thanks for the help getting the adreniline pumping! Caches 32; Days 21.

(#7) Top, Middle, Bottom?: All quiet on the street, but you never know who might be watching out of one those windows. Think I'm a little paranoid? Caches 31; Days 21.

(#6) Rest Stop on the Hill: I had to wait for an extremely tired pedestrian who took several breaks on the way up. Completely understandable! After that, it was a quick score. Left a TB. TFTC. Caches 30; days 21.

Little Road in Town: Lots of construction going on nearby. TFTC. Caches 29; Days 21.

October 17, 2005

Nannarone: I stopped by after work: One team was practicing, and several people were jogging on the level path around the field. Very nice. TFTC.

October 15, 2005

ANX: The Angle of Eternity: What a great afternoon for a group caching trek! A group effort all the way; we started slow, but picked up steam as the puzzles unfolded.
Stage 1: Boulter said the answer was right under his nose; for us, it was just above mine. The level of our confusion was nicely illustrated by both craw, who was looking for inspiration in paint flecks, and vaccine, who figured that bird poop meant something significant.
Stage 2: In theme and nicely done. It wasn't long before a pattern emerged though.
Stage 3: I had to snicker a bit at bthomas and vaccine who were way off in the bushes somewhere when craw, burr, and I found the puzzle. It was their insight, though, that led us to a solution.
Stage 4: Plenty of evidence of previous cachers at this spot, and I must admit that we felt obliged to comb over all the same tired spots. As we should have anticipated a lot quicker, the hide was truely unique. As time goes on it won't get any easier. I think craw said it would aquire 'patina'. Indeed.
Stage 5: We fanned out pretty quickly on this one, and as I was contemplating a hike up a pretty steep slope bthomas made the find.
Final: This one reminded me of some sort of reality show contest. You know, the kind where one person shouts instructions to his blind-folded teammates...Lots of confusion, vague gesturing, dozens of opinions and requests. Gradually things came together though, and we had finished the quest.
Back in the car on the way home, we happened to glance at the picture on the cache page, carefully printed out and carried along, but forgotten in the heat of the moment. Hey! that would have been really helpful. It's simply a tribute to this cache, which fit together on so many levels it's truly amazing. Grand fun. Thanks so much for putting it together.

Great Wall of Sanborn: There was this string accross the creek close to the cache. Strange. I thought it might be part of a puzzle cache, but evidently not. Thanks.

328: We walked right past that 'No Pedestrians' sign to get back in the car after finding this cache. Hmmmm... TFTC.

Assume Nothing #2 1/2: When we arrived on scene, there was a kid trying to feed his dollar into the vending machine. It must have been pretty wrinkled, 'cuz he was having trouble. Fortunately, he didn't look around from his work, and we searched while he fed, and fed, and fed, and fed...Eventually it was victory for us and for him! We were happy. He looked relieved. TFTC.

SC- not! - What is wrong with this LC?: I hate it when things like expressways and creeks get in the way. Thanks for the quick score (once we got on scene!).

Excuses, Excuses: Well, not a habenero spicy burn your mouth evil, but more of a tangy mango salsa leave your mouth pleasantly warm evil. Unfortunately, no time for tacos, it's on to the next cache.

Cheap (First Cache): Walking back to the car after spending way too much time on this cache, vaccine read us clownknife's log from his PDA. After hearing about those travails, I definitely have nothing to complain about.

Monsters Could Hide Here: Okay, I freely admit it: I'd thrown in the towel quite a while befor burr found this cache. Nicely done.

My Kind of Town - Campbell: Octoberfest was over for the evening, so it was just us and some food vendors in the distance. We systematically approached the problem, and craw came up with the find. Thanks!

Billy's Box: Getting to it was most of the trouble. First a creek, then an embankment. Fortunately these were only temporary setbacks! TFTC.

Campbell Park Troll: A nice night for a stroll in the park. We looked pretty carefully, the troll must be on vacation.

Airborne: I'm sure the people walking just as we opened the plastic bag with the log in it thought we were doing something quite different than what we actually were. Good place for it too.

October 14, 2005

GeoBeads #9 - Hidden in a Hidden Walkway: This one brought back fun memories of the first walkway cache here. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

GeoBeads #3 – Down the Chute: I thought I checked there the first time. My second pass revealed the goods. TFTC.

Yum: I liked it! Thanks.

Speed Ease: Passing through with a little extra time...TFTC.

October 10, 2005

This Stop: Montara!: 3TF! It was a great day to take the long way home. I particularly enjoyed the view from the final location, and spent a few minutes watching the waves.

Wild Blackberries--Yum!: 2TF!! Minutes behind Vacine...who was nowhere to be seen. I really like this park. Thanks for bringing me back.

October 6, 2005

Reflect on this: After a moment's reflection (required by the presence of cars, joggers, and a bicyclist), I notched another smilie. Thanks!

Steeple Chase #1: Thanks for pointing out this church! The steeple reminded me of an Egyptian obelisk. Very unique. TFTC.

Shopping for a cache: I hopped out of the car to find this cache and smelled the In-N-Out. Guess where I went next!?! TFTC.

Hardware Alley Cache: Weaving through workers on smoke or coffee breaks, I did my best befuddled and confused acts. For some strange reason, this always seems to embarrass people, and they will look away long enough for me to make a moving grab. I always wonder what they're thinking when I make a second pass to replace the cache, though. Thanks!

Stan Troedson Field: Just me and the groundskeeper. TFTC.

Ow data matches: Thanks for pointing out this path! TNLNSL.

SWAT coated ham: Thanks for the quick hike.

Mao's thawed cat: My turn-around point. TFTC.

Benny Bear: An out-dated pocket query clashed with plump logs and mangled metal while Benny bear looked on aloofly. Thanks!

October 3, 2005

Ashen Cache: Heard enough at the un-event to make things click. I'm still not sure how you get a set of unambigous coordinates, but I knew enough about one of my solutions to be pretty sure it was correct. Nicely done. TFTC.

October 1, 2005

Pacific Shores Zoo: I found it around 7:30pm, after dodging the 'Courtesy Patrol'. IIRC, this guy blocks entry to Pacific Shores Center after about 8pm, as a courtesy to the folks who own the place. Finally, since everyone's being so courteous to each other, thanks very much for placing this cache: The fading light over the evaporator ponds was quite nice.

RWC Hills Beacon-Endangered Landmark #2: John, Ted, and I met up with crawburr to find this cache. Clear skies made for excellent views, and after a bit of trading, we continued on up the hill in order to appreciate the full effect. Thanks for replacing the cache!

September 30, 2005

Isuzu Gone: Whew! It was pretty toasty in the ol' Isuzu this afternoon. I couldn't find the A/C, or the motor, or steering wheel, or any wheel for that matter...but I did find the cache. In the end, that was the only accessory I really cared about. Thanks!

Surfin' Safari: I love caches where the hide reveals itself and I laugh out loud. What a hoot! The waves were pretty high today, and there were lots of surfers. The llamas were pretty cool too. Just as I was ready to replace the cache, 3 boys came along on bikes and spent quite a while feeding and talking to 'Mike' who was quite curious about them. I was able to return the cache while their attention was diverted. Although it's wedged in place pretty tight, a little maintainance would probably be advisable. Thanks.

Tsunami Rangers: What a cool building and bridge! I had to dodge several newlywed couples (shiny rings are a dead giveaway!) and the usual assortment of joggers and bicyclists. TFTC.

Thursday, September 29, 2005

September 29, 2005

Top of Ralston: GPSr was kinda squirrely this morning, and I had to dodge kids walking to school, making this find a bit more challenging than expected. Thanks for the views! Dropped off the Lizard TB.

TA@10K #5000: Congrats TA on becoming a full fisted cacher.
2TF! Having already hiked the service road from the end of Trinity Road to find 'Above the Stars', I opted for the shorter and STEEPER (!?!) trail from Firth Park. Whoever created that trail missed the chapter on switchbacks in trail-building class. If anybody finds my left lung along the trail, could I please have it back? I coughed it up trying to catch my breath. Note to self: Nothing looks steep in an arial photo. Thanks for the views! They were definitely worth the effort.

September 28, 2005

Gateway to Hillsborough: Nice bridge! Thanks for showing me the spot.

Bad Dog!: 2nd visit. After re-searching all the same places a second time (so I thought!), I used a lifeline to help focus my efforts. Duh! I had the cache in hand 15 seconds after we hung up the phone. TFTF(frustration).

Agnew Park: I had to go to the airport this morning, so I was within striking distance of this cache, and a new geocoin icon was the goal. Much to my frustration, I arrived on scene and realized my pen had leaked all over my geocaching bag. Well, the proof of my presence will have to be logging the NJ coin! Thanks.

Ridge Trail View # 1: A clear day with a light breeze. Million dollar views. Great! TFTC.

Ridge Trail View # 2: I was worried about sssssnakesssss, but didn't see any. The hissing of the wind through dry grass kept me on my toes though. The last visitors to the cache were a couple of muggle kids from Guatamala. Fortunately their spanglish was good enough for me to decipher. TFTC.

Deck-View: Arriving at the cache site, I laughed out loud. What a suprise! Thanks for the fun.

Meadow Trail: Nice little stroll. TFTC.

Ridge with a View: Passed a few dogs, and a multi-million dollar house. TFTC.

Crazy Pete's Money Cache: Thank goodness it hasn't rained in a while, the cache was sitting open in its little hiding place. Either that, or there's a muggle making withdrawls. Yeah, that must be it...since the only coin of value was an EU 10 cent piece. TNLNSL.

September 23, 2005

Beyond the End: Very nice. I sat watching the waves for quite a while after finding the cache. Thanks!

Purisima Creek Parking: I arranged to meet NavySparks for this hike. Poor satelite reception was the theme for today, and we wandered around for a bit until Herb made the find. TFTC.

Cave Dweller of Purisima Creek: What a beautiful hike! Thanks for placing caches along this trail. T: sig dog tag; L: Protech alien, CA wooden nickel. Again, with poor satelite reception, the hint was quite welcome.

Purisima Creek Troll: This cache had NS and me quite perplexed for a while, as we were looking for a true troll, and not just a troll with a whole lot of sunscreen on. I'm not going to quibble too much, but since you did say you took a wrong turn when you placed these caches, I think it should be called Whittemore Gulch troll. In any case, thanks for a fantastic little series.

Beginner's Luck: I brought the whole family along on this one. The boys fought over a little squirt gun, and the girls argued about a piece of blue glass. Ahhh, family life: you gotta love it, otherwise it'll drive you crazy. I'm sure we made peace eventually, but I be darned if I can remember what we left in trade. TFTC. Oh, I lived in Escondido Village about 35 years ago. Looks exactly the same.

Go Fish: Like Mrs. NavySparks says, we were pretty befuddled at the first stage till MrNS sheepishly coughed it up. After that, they tagged along to see how we would tackle the final cache. There were a few nervous moments while we attempted to retreive it, since they had left a sorta heavy TB in there. Fortunately, it was just a matter of getting the right angle, and all was well. Lotsa fun. The kids found a few trees to climb while the adults chatted. TFTC.

Electric Lizard: We (the adults) tried to convince the kids to stay in the car while we made the search. No go! Those long pouty faces were too much to take. Eventually one of them made the find: Claire (12) was positively walking on air when I told her that she found a cache that Marky DNF'd earlier in the day. Thanks!

Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre: Even for a Sunday afternoon, weird how deserted this park is. Just my luck then that the only people around were collecting blackberries in the bushes by the seats. Out of their line of sight, I made the find. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Water Dogs: Just like the other cache, there were people just a few feet away. Fortunately, I was behind the bushes, and made a quick find. I liked the camo, but even so, this cache seemed a bit exposed, so I tried to conceal it with natural materials. Thanks for showing me this part of MacLaren Park.

101 at 92: FTF! 12:25p Yeah, I've always wondered about that freeway ramp. Hidden in typical gritty nlrw style. I had to pause a bit until Mr. CHP cleared out, but after that no troubles on a Saturday. T: Flag pin; L: Sharkz sig tooth. Thanks.

September 2, 2005

Back to Crystal Springs: TFTC! After the find, I hiked up past the other cache, since I was curious where the road would end up. After poking around a bit I noticed a geo-pile. Hmmm, I thought, there's no cache here. After a bit of moving sticks, I discovered a tarp. It was wrapped around a milk crate that was stocked with half a dozen wine and beer bottles. That's a first for me!

Electric Fields: Shocking! The guy in the comcast truck slept through the whole thing. TFTC.

August 30, 2005

CalTrain - Bayshore #2: I enjoyed touring the new station, and was amused by the huge clock on the west side that tells the time to no one. Thanks! After a short walk, I saw the cache container glinting in the sun from a distance, and tried to hide it better after signing the log. Also, I took the CO coin, and will move it along.

August 27, 2005

Farewell CA Cache: We found this cache on a family outing to Skyline Ridge OSP. It was pretty hot right next to the lake with the sun beating down, but we spent quite a while exploring after finding the cache. Thanks for bringing us to this picturesque spot.

Born Free: We found this cache with a group of six, a couple of which are about the same age as this cache. It was fun to look through years worth of logs: kinda like a time capsule. We noticed a lottery ticket from 2002 and a ticket to a play back in 2003. The kids traded and we lingered at the spot to have a snack and a drink of water. It was a very pleasant trail on a hot and sunny day. Thanks.

End of the Trail 2: Lambert Creek: I left the rest of the crew up by the lake to go get this cache by myself. Pretty glad I did, too, since the shorter legs never would have made it back out of that canyon. In spite of the steepness of the trail, I really enjoyed the quiet seclusion. Jaklyn and I parted ways: a little incentive to the next visitor. Thanks!

August 22, 2005

Three Women Who Cared: Thanks for the opportunity to get reaquainted with this stretch of the bayshore...and learn about the people who preserved it for us. Like crawburr says, 8:30p means the gate is locked! We were there at 8:40. Thank goodness for the custodial crew who was just finishing up at the interpretive center, otherwise we would have been making a call to PAPD. In any case, the light at sunset accross the marshes was fantastic. John found the cache, and Maggie traded.

August 20, 2005

Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Got it! Thanks for showing us this interesting park.

Ulistac Nature Preserve: Detoured to find this cache while on the way to the airport. A nice big cache in a sea of micros: The kids were suitably impressed! Thanks.

Ulistac: Detoured a bit to find this cache and a couple of others on the way to the airport. Maggie took a picture of me and the boys. The kids traded. Thanks!

August 19, 2005

Spider Den: I slipped in and out just before closing time. Whoa! Watch out, barbed wire! TFTC.

Suburban Park: I missed the picnic, but enjoyed the quick find while out and about. Thanks!

Yet Another Walkway: One of a couple I found on the way back from the geocoin event. With more DNF's than finds, night cacher I'm not. Thankfully I'd seen this hide before. TFTC.

Mental Workout: One of a couple I found after dark on the way home from the geocoin event. Night cacher I'm not. Thanks for a bit of salve for my wounded ego.

August 18, 2005

Stairway to the Bay: Thanks for the morning bayside stroll. I'd been to the northern end of this new park before, but this was the first time to this section. TNLNSL.

August 13, 2005

Free WiFi #1: Five weeks since the last visit and all is well. TFTC.

Hex if I Know: Amazingly, I walked right up to it. Plenty of people at the playground and preparing food at the picnic tables, but nobody worried about me. Again, what is the purpose of this structure: A view of the canal? Hmmmmmm. Just one of those geocaching mysteries, I suppose.

Sidewalk Cache: I suppose there's some rule of bridge construction that requires a sidewalk...otherwise, I can't fathom the purpose for this place; it's a path to nowhere! Anyway, thanks for the smilie.

Border of Borders: After finding this cache, I decided to treat myself to a double-double (with onions). Thanks for the excuse.

M.O.M.: Searched for this cache a bit, but came up empty. Decided to try the Turk Island cache to see if I could learn something about the hider's style. That's the ticket! Found it on my return visit. FYI, there is no more blank space on the log. TFTC.

Turk Island Revisited: Got it! Nobody on the soccer fields; nobody on the baseball diamond; nobody playing on the playground. Where is everybody? TFTC.

August 12, 2005

The Motherlode #2 - Purisima Creek: I really enjoyed the hike to this cache. Spotty reception led me onto the Soda Gulch trail for a bit, but eventually I realized my mistake. Thanks!

Wunderlich Surprise: Okay, I admit it! You got me. A pleasant evening hike and a fun suprise. TFTC.

ENTROPY: What an interesting spot! Actually, this place looks pretty well preserved, all things considered. I wouldn't want to drink that water, though: too much pond scum. The cache really sticks out; I'm suprised no muggles have noticed it. TFTC.

Redwood Flats: Wow! A hidden gem. I was enjoying the walk so much that I forgot to check my position until I was about 50' away. Looking back at the track log, I realized it's just as well since I didn't have a signal the entire way from the last cache. Nice hide. Thanks!

August 8, 2005

Ask Your Kids: Fun puzzle! A quick grab in fading light with someone standing 5' away but paying me absolutely no mind. I saw the batteries, but having nothing to trade, left them for the next finder. Thanks.

Small Park, Regular Cache: Different bark? I thought the most striking thing was different leaves! I was alone in the park tonight, (Sort of...all the people driving by don't count, right?) and made a quick grab. TNLNSL. Thanks!

Bridge Over Troubled Water: I had to tie my shoe about 5 times, but eventually I found it. TFTC.

August 6, 2005

A 17 cache day at Butano SP and environs with a great bunch of geocachers. That's my personal record for one day!

Butano Creek: First cache of the day with plans to walk a loop through the park. Nicely hidden and well stocked. Thanks!

Escape: Quite an adventure finding this cache! Thanks for the encouraging clues and a preview of the cache theme to come! I picked up Kablooey's 3 iron. TFTC.

High and Dry: Up, up, up! Whew, this was a lot of work! Great views! Thanks.

Mystery Trail: Another cache to mark the ascent to the top! Nearly there. TFTC.

A.L.F.: I'll keep my two feet solidly on the ground, if you don't mind: that clearing looked too narrow for much of anything with a plane. Somebody's maintaining that cinderblock hut, though. Thanks.

Unknown Alien Cache: I agree with your theory. Nothing else makes any sense. That wasn't a really a cache, either. It's an interstellar lost and found. Right? TFTC.

Where Water Comes From: Scoured the immediate area and promptly declared, "No cache here!" Wrong! Very nicely done. TFTC.

Piece of Cake: I found it! TFTC.

Olmost Heaven: It felt good to take a load off for a few minutes. Wonderful view! TFTC.

Quite Appeeling: I've heard that the coastal fog helps grow really great fruit! Plenty of proof of that around here.

Oat Bun: WoW is too kind. I forgot the club, plain and simple. Hopefully the other group took it with them. Sorry, Kablooey!

Going Gazos: No wasps; whew! After peering at things from the right angle, several of us spotted the cache, and directed WoW from to it from a distance. Thanks.

Candelabra: I was pretty tuckered out from the previous 4 hours of hiking, but made the trek down to this cache with the group. Fantastic! It was well worth the trip! What causes something like that to happen? Thanks for showing us the spot.

Take a Bite: WoW offered to sign the log for me, and I happily accepted. Whew, I'm bushed. A fun and challenging series. Thanks!

First or Last: At the last cache of the day, we finally had to deal with a little muggle activity. Nothing serious mind you, but it did seem a little out of place. Mr. Calipidder was feeling pretty comfortable with us at this point, revealing his true screen name: 'Drunken Marmot'. I was pretty wobbly myself, but all in all it was a great way to spend the day in a beautiful place. Thanks!

Mt. Hope Cemetery: Escaping the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowd down in town, bthomas and I ate our take-out lunch within the peaceful confines of the cemetery. I was really suprised by the dates on some of the markers; a few were over 100 years old! Thanks for an interesting and informative cache!

San Gregorio: There was time for just one more cache before heading home. bthomas was suggesting a couple that he'd already done, but we determined that this was one we both still needed to find. TFTC.

August 5, 2005

Going in Cirles 2: FTF!!! 8:10a I've done the loop here (in both directions!) before, so I appreciated a cache commemorating our misfortunes. The coordinates took me right to the spot. That sculpture across the way is pretty cool. Here's my incident report: Burrs -- most definitely; PO -- small sprigs on the ground here and there, easily avoided; Ticks -- none found; Dump -- yes, but now covered with leaves and twigs. Low hanging branches -- yes, careful you'll poke your eye out. Just the sort of stuff to help you remember you're alive ! Thanks.

Waters Crossing: A quick grab for me on the way to work, so no time to stop for an ice cream. I hope the neighbors don't mind! TFTC!

Matadero Creek Canal: In contrast to the water in the Creek, the instructions were crystal clear to us. The final location was a pleasant suprise, and the kids spent a long time enjoying the amenities while I went off in search of a smilie. After a while, I found the nicely hidden cache and signed the log. The cache had the largest marble I've ever seen. ! Thanks.

August 3, 2005

Bay Area Multiple Hills - 5: FTF in the new location. Thanks for a nice hike. I thought it was going to be clear, based upon my work view on the eastern side of the mountain, but, unfortunately, it was a bit foggy over on the west side by the cache. I felt a bit guilty going that far off trail, but it was evident I wasn't the first. The coordinates told me to search in the PO, so I checked the hint. No trouble finding the first item mentioned, but the second took a while. I was starting to think said item couldn't possibly be in the area around the cache. Oh, there it is, but how to get to it? TNLN, initialled my previous log. Thanks.

August 2, 2005

Flying West: FTF!!! 6:35p I happened to check for new listings before leaving work. Lucky me! After a few minutes of research, I left with coordinates in hand. I found the cache, still smelling of wet spray paint. Thanks for a fun puzzle and some great views! TNLNSL.

July 29, 2005

Skeggs Point: There was only one mountain biker at his car on the other side of the parking lot, so I zeroed out and got to work. Ah...there it is. Now, off for a hike! Thanks.

The Clearing: FTF!! 8:10am. Having been along this trail before going to Rain734's cache and the Tafoni, I knew right where it was. Well, finding it was another matter! Evil hide ! I nearly gave up a few times, but was determined to have the FTF and the WJTB that had eluded me over on Sugarloaf! BTW, the wax seal on the cache container must have gotten a little warm, since it has melted on one corner and oozed down the inside of the box. Not a big deal now, but the damage may continue. Left an unregistered 2005 USA geocoin. Thanks for the adventure.

This Old Stump: FTF!!! When I got to the area of the cache, I had only 2D reception on the satellites so I started searching everything that could somehow relate to the cache name. I found it in the 3rd one I searched. Thanks for bringing me out on this fine day to this great trail.

The Motherlode: This cache rounded out my sweep of Geekster caches in El Corte de Madera OSP. Very nicely hidden and stocked! Alas, I am a bit of a swag cheapskate, and had maxxed my budget for this trip over at 'The Clearing', and so just signed the log. Thanks for a great morning jaunt!

July 27, 2005

Safe Diligence: In my haste, I was attracted to another more conventional hiding place. After ruling it out, the GPSr had caught up with me, and was indicating the true location. Afterwards, I hung around for awhile watching a couple of San Carlos' finest administering a roadside sobriety test. Things weren't going well for the driver. TFTC.

July 25, 2005

Little Bridge: 2nd try. After a little guidance from the cache owner, I was able to find it. A very nice use of available materials! On both of my visits, there was an accident pulled off the side of the freeway along the way. It makes me wonder how many there are each day. TFTC.

July 24, 2005

Boy, Am I Ever Hungry!: Obviously no Sunday brunch at this place...deserted. TFTC.

Walk on by: Following geekster again. I really enjoyed the loop back to the start after finding this cache: A nice dirt trail back to the park, then another paved trail back to the car. Thanks!

Sugarloaf: I wasn't going to claim a second find, but...(1) the trail I took was 250' up in 0.2 miles; whew! a lung buster! (2) Geekster beat me to the WJTB, so I'm feeling a little grumpy. (3) vaccine said I could. So there. Thanks for a great hike; It wasn't too hot early this morning. Left a TB; took a TB.

Pizza Power: I got around to this cache today since I was too busy trying to be a good host on Friday (something like that!) Thanks! It made the event a lot more fun.

July 22, 2005

Canadamandu: I made the trek with the boys after swim lessons. I can't say I wasn't warned...but going after this one with two five year-olds in shorts and sandals wasn't one of my better decisions. Thanks for the view. We traded, and made it back to the car without incident.

July 12, 2005

Sunnyvale's Smallest Park?: I zipped over to this cache between events at my daughters' swim meet over at the high school. Thanks!

Friday, July 15, 2005

July 11, 2005

Igor: FTF!!! 7:00a A nice hike in the early morning quiet. At the start I had to use my wits a bit since the path I picked to this cache doesn't follow the arrow right away. Still, I think I made a good choice. As I found the cache, the sun peeked (or is it peaked?) over the hill top. Coordinates were spot on. I took the TB, and left the FTF prize to a future finder. Thanks.

Tower of Power: Thanks for another neighborhood cache. I thought it was going to be less than 0.1 mi to my 'Ex-evaporator' cache for sure. It turns out I was wrong; it's 530 feet. That's cutting it pretty close! In any case, no mountain lions here; not even an angry goose.

Wednesday, July 06, 2005

July 6, 2005

Costaños Cañon: FTF!!! 12pm Thanks for showing me this hidden park! and for the additional help since my GPSr lost lock about 30 feet from the car...(hrumph...I paid a lot of money for that dang thing.) I was expecting to see a canon, but instead it was a cañon. FWIW, to get the tilde above the letter, hold down ALT key and type '164'! TFTC.

July 4, 2005

Our Lady of the River: We got distracted by the creek, and spent a long time playing at the waterside. The kids caught a toad, and had a ball playing on the natural bridge. Eventually we turned our attention to the cache. Thanks for bringing us to this cool and shady spot on a warm 4th of July!

Great Reception: Thanks for the July 4th diversion. Great view!

Major Inconvenience: With a little prompting from the cache owner, we were able to come up a solution that made sense. BookieBear and SingR&DancR signed the log too, although they didn't have too much to do with solving the puzzle. Since there were about a dozen earwigs living in the crevices on the underside of the cache container, we traded a rubber cockroach for the steel penny.

July 3, 2005

Where's the Map: FTF!!!7:30p I solved this puzzle right away, but told myself that I'd wait until a workday lunch to find it since I'd be quite a bit closer. Yeah, right! After watching it go unfound for nearly two days, I couldn't take it any more, and off I went. A fun puzzle, a great hike, and a panoramic view. What more could I want? Thanks! T: GC keychain compass; L: Unregistered 2005 USA geocoin. It's my first FTF on a puzzle cache! Yippeeee!!!

June 29, 2005

Hastings Tot Lot: 2TF @ 7:55am. The fog this morning gave the canyon a peaceful stillness that I really enjoyed. The green hippo lawn ornament up by the playground really cracked me up. I left a WJTB, and signed the log. Thanks!

Kid Cache: FTF!!! 5:45p Thanks for bringing me back to this park. There used to be a cache over on the north side, and I remember it well because I got my first really bad case of PO while searching for it . Fortunately there's nothing to worry about around this one. Under cover of the trees, the GPSr signal was a bit touchy, but I perservered and made the find. What a well stocked container. I was pleased to notice that you have quite a few assistant cache-keepers ScienceBean. That's cool! Thanks for placing a great cache, and welcome to Geocaching!

Gazebo: FTF!!!@6:40p Ahhh...the feel of a blank log sheet beneath my pen... I approached this search systematically, and only after finding the cache did I look at the clue. Frankly, I think you guys are being a little hard on Mr. Fishdude, although true to his devious nature, he has done nothing to stop you from tripping over your own assumptions. Alas, I'm afraid I've said too much. Thanks for the fun and the rubber fish.

June 25, 2005

Venor Infernus Sempervirons: Thanks for a great event. Good food, converstation and company. The kids loved the dueling trebuchets! Thanks!

Sag Ponds of the San Andreas: We detoured from our journey to the Roaring Camp picnic event to find this cache. It was a beautiful place to hike on a pleasantly cool and windy day. The kids enjoyed exploring the trail, but were a bit underwhelmed when we actually found the 'pond'. TFTC.

Bridge Mind Bender: Not too tricky. We were sorely tempted to go for a swim like a bunch of other folks were doing. Unfortunately, we didn't have our swim suits. The train arrived while we were closeby. Cool. TFTC.

JCF: Wonderful stroll through the redwoods. You'd think that docent would have been curious after awhile. TFTC.

Duck, Duck, Goose: Our timing on this one made it an unassisted search. Maggie (8) made the grab for the group. TFTC.

Jane Doe: Just like its brother cache, we found this one with a group of about 20. I waited 5 minutes to sign the log book. The kids pawed over the swag, and approximately 50% of our goodie bag was swapped out. Good times! Thanks.

Deer John: A little after the event adventure. That WJTB the Saints gave us ended up here. Thanks! It really should stay in the immediate area for a while. The kids had loads of fun tracking this one down, lots of trading occurred. A perfect family cache. Thanks!

June 24, 2005

Toyon Bench: Back for a 2nd swing through the park: #1 on my loop. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful. Thanks.

Toyon High Side: Back for a second swing through the park: #2 on my loop. I found it pretty quickly. Thanks.

Along the Toyon Trail: #3 on my loop through the park for a second time. Warm sun and cool breezes made my visit really pleasant. Thanks.

June 23, 2005

Sanchez Lagoon #2: 3TF at 8am. Tide was out. I could have walked the 0.13 mi to #1...NOT! TFTC.

June 18, 2005

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Royal Gates: Maggie (8) and I decided to attempt this series. After poking around in some more typical hiding places, we discovered this cleverly hidden cache. Maggie realized that there were beads available for trade, and was quite excited for the opportunity. Thanks!

Tamarack Gate: A quick grab while doing the new series. Thanks!

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Shrine: This one was tough for us: Lots of prickly weeds and branches to stumble over. Eventually we found it, and Maggie traded for another bead, which made up for any temporary discomfort. TFTC.

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Underworld: A cool spot! What a majestic old oak tree. Thanks.

Nefertiti's Pyramid: King Tut: Maggie was starting to drag a bit at this point, so I sent her down to the bench by the pond to eat a snack. After about 5 minutes, I went back to check on her. Whew! an amazing transformation! TFTC.

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Viper: We passed M&J who were headed back down the trail close to this cache. They pointed out to us that we'd missed the 'Offerings' cache, and provided the necessary information. Maggie made the find on this one, and we enjoyed our little creek-side adventure.

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Throne: Hopefully there weren't any PETA members around, cuz we had a ball tormenting the cows. Our objective was to touch one, but they're suprisingly quick and nimble when it's required. Oh, we found the cache, too, but spent a few misdirected minutes trying to follow the instructions on the cache paper right at that spot. Nothing doing. Duh.

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Even having all of the information, and correctly assembling the puzzle (very cool by the way! Maggie insisted on doing it all by herself), this was still quite a challenging cache to find. I appreciated the encouragement I found shortly before the container itself. Maggie traded for a keychain this time, and I traded for the benchmark token since it was new to me. Thanks for a great series!

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Offerings: Even though we'd already finished the final puzzle, I still wanted the smilie for this one, so we detoured to get it on the way out. Thanks!

June 16, 2005

Forgotten Psychedelic Rock Venue: Got it. Thanks.

Baylands Grove: Dusk, drizzle, deserted. Fortunately, no spider webs. TFTC.

Token Gesture: A very nice park! Thanks for bringing me out here.

Aw, Nuts!: I dispaired to find this cache in the dark, even with a flashlight. Fortunately my fears weren't realized. Thanks.

Home Run!: This cache was a bit tougher in the long shadows of the flood lights. Eventually I stopped chasing the arrow and found it in a logical, but shadowy spot. I think I might have distracted some of the folks on the other side of the fence.

BM521: All the action was across the way at the ball fields. Thanks for showing me this trail.

Have a Ball: I reached this cache just at sunset. The storm clouds were clearing and the light was fantastic. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera. In any case, the air was clear and the views were great! Thanks.

June 15, 2005

Beacon, Light My Way: 9:30p 2TF. I walked the 246 feet from my front door to this cache and still wasn't first, meeting Eagle81 and ShoresScouts who had just found it, on the way. (It was very nice to meet you and congratulations on the FTF!) As far as the cache itself and the supposedly 'incorrect' coordinates, what can I say? Not much, except that puzzle caches are the accepted venue for this sort of trickery. Deliberately giving incorrect coordinates in a traditional cache is considered bad form. It actually would have been a pretty cool puzzle: Call it Mirror Image, tell people the cache isn't located at the posted coords, but that they need to visit them to get clues to the actual location...or something like that. Oh well, maybe next time.

June 14, 2005

Burton Park Revisited: I scoped out the area but had to wait for someone in a nearby car to clear out before making the find. Nicely done. Thanks.

June 13, 2005

Circle of Technology: 5:30p It's a bit past the gardening hour, and everybody else appears eager to put a little distance between themselves and and nearby offices, resulting in a straightforward search and find for me. I peeked into the canyon below and thought to myself, 'There's got to be a trail down there.' Twisted, very twisted. Thanks.

Sunday, June 12, 2005

June 11, 2005

Touch the Twilight (Night Cache): Thanks for creating a really fun adventure! As I write this the next morning, the kids are sleeping in late, so it must have worn them out pretty good, too! The lights of the city were beautiful to look at, and we enjoyed listening to the cows mooing their goodnights to each other. The course is in good shape, and after finding the final location, we noted that a YJTB and unactivated USA geocoin are still there for the taking. TFTC.

June 10, 2005

Mindego Trail Cache: Passed a park ranger in his truck at the trailhead. At first I thought he was watching us, but then, as soon as he started up the hill, two mountain bikers came zipping out of the fog from the other direction and nearly ran us over. That's who he was looking for! Ah, the cat and mouse life of a park ranger. TFTC.

Pillars of Stone: Whew we made it! I was more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs walking along that stretch of road...in the fog...with two 5-year olds.

Razorback Ridge: John, Ted and I found this cache on the way to a campout at the beach. Okay, so we took the long way! The fog was settling fast, and by the time we got back to the car it was more like a rain storm. A little trading occured; thanks for a nicely stocked box.

June 8, 2005

Hidden Canyon Hideaway: 7pm FTF!!! Thanks for another excuse to visit this beautiful park. The trail map and markers are a welcome addition, and I made a mental note of several tucked away trailheads for future trips. It took me a few minutes to find the nicely concealed cache, and had to keep reminding myself that it was, as mentioned on the cache page, hidden close to the trail. A quartet of mountain bikers startled me while I was writing in the log book. They don't make too much noise going uphill! I took the YJTB and left, appropriately enough, a rubber snake. The other TBs I had with me just wouldn't fit. TFTC.

KrakaTwoEighty: What a cool place, and a mind-expanding hide! Definitely worthy of #800. Thanks for showing it to us.

Sanchez Lagoon: 12:45p FTF!!! Thanks for pointing out this hidden trail. If you're curious about this area, read the small sign along the trail about half way to the cache. A great lunch time hike.

Public Access: After some encouragement from the cache owner (who narrowed the search area down from ± 20 ft to about ± 2 ft for me), I found the cache easily. Now that I've visited this area at both low and high tide, I realize each has its own interesting features.

Assume Nothing #8: As I was approaching, Team Alamo came running up and told me not to look. So I spent a few minutes watching the firefighters mop up across the creek. Eventually bthomas and stbk concluded it was not possible to rehide cache, so they let me sign the log. Despite the damage, very nice. I can say with confidence I would have gotten it anyway. A 9-1-1 call was made to a cache paramedic, who arrived on scene shortly to fix things up. TFTC.

Bait (Hidden Walkways II): The clue brought this one home for me. Thanks.

Vasona Lake cache: A quick find on the way to group events. Thanks!

The Shawshank Redemption: Knock this one down a couple stars for me with others doing all the thinking. It was lots of fun getting wet in the tunnel and enjoying the theme of this cache. Thanks!

Little Cache of Horrors: With a little stick-to-it-ive-ness this cache was ours. I think the neighbors are getting suspicious though. Hopefully this cache will get a rest for a few days.

Little Cache of Horrors II: Emilie and I walked over to this cache after the event. It was pretty much dark, but fortunately we didn't need a light and found the cache by feel. Nicely done.

Little Shop of Horrors: The Sequel: Lots of fun for us chatting, scoping out coin collections, and spray painting. Thanks for hosting a super event!

Dorthy W. Erskine: #1 of a lunch-time caching foray deeper than ever before into the unknown territory of San Francisco. With friendly finds like this, I'll master my fears of the City yet!

Secret Garden: Whew! I'm glad that's over...although I enjoyed this area very much, I couldn't quite get over the feeling that I was walking in somebody's backyard. TFTC.

Harry's Hideout: I found the cache, but I had to hurry since someone was coming up the 'street'. Thanks.

(#4) Sr. Verissimma's Playground: I took the difficult way in, then sat a while and enjoyed the view. Thanks for the workout.

(#3) Sr. Verissimma's Science Class: A quick find. (Just lucky, I think.)

(#5) Steeple View: A not-so-quick find. (The luck had run out down the hill!) TFTC.

Annie's Birthday Present: 11:45p FTF!!! Nice park. Tricky hiding spot. TN, left a really little matchbox car. Thanks.

June 2, 2005

Banana Slug Highway: This was my second visit after a DNF last fall. There is construction going on at the trailhead: It's more than just a home since there are at least 5 buildings going up. It's evident no expense is being spared (would you expect any less?) I'll be curious to come back in a few months and see how things turn out. TFTC.

Watermelon Hill: A couple of streets over was getting all the attention: 50 tourists snapping pictures, and a cop directing traffic. Naturally, we liked this one better. Thanks for the alternative.

Sounds of the Bay: We have wanted to find this cache for a long time. Memorial day seemed like the ideal opportunity to make the trip. The weather was perfect and the kids enjoyed playing on the beach adjacent to the cache so much that they forgot there was a treasure somewhere nearby. At somepoint, I slipped away to make the find, and left a bunch of swag for future finders, silent tribute on my part to the magnificence of this spot. Thanks for the adventure.

Columba: The appropriateness of this cache for a Memorial Day outing in San Francisco was completely lost on us until we arrived on scene. A huge American flag filled the dome from ceiling to ground. We weren't sure if it's always there or specially placed on this weekend to honor those who have served our country. Thanks for providing us with the opportunity to explore a wonderful and unique place and to teach the kids more about love, loss, honor and respect in a very effective way.

Prickly Garden: The whole family made this trip, and we spent quite a while looking at all of the interesting plants in this garden. Thanks for pointing this place out, and sharing the history with us. Really cool. After awhile our thoughts returned to geocaching. Eventually the kids made the find, but not before I told them to stop searching in the bushes. Thanks again!

Free WiFi #2: Still pretty busy at 10pm on a Sunday night. TFTC.

GeoBeads #1 – 'Round the Corner: I was so close to the folks at the outdoor table for the nearby restaurant that I could smell their food: It's gotta be some sort of personal record. Fun. Thanks.

Why?: I could hear the people protected by this structure talking in their backyard tonight. It's fun to wonder in situations like this whether or not they have any clue what's going on. TFTC.

Portkey: I stared right at it for about a minute before I realized what I had. Thanks.

Proposal Point: What a lovely spot. Congratulations!

Secret Trailhead #6 - San Francisco: Thanks for pointing this access-point out. I found the cache on the way to the top.

Take-a-Peek: Beautiful view, even with the fog streaming in today. I found the contrast between the shady and the sunny sides of the hill very interesting. TFTC.

This Old Tree: NavySparks, Anotherone, and I found this cache together. Too bad we missed RR by a few minutes. Nice hide, and very pleasant to catch up with you guys. Okay, on the next one I'll bring the donuts.

Rengstorff Rätsel: I was sorta perplexed with this for a minute or two. Then the little light bulb popped on. I love that! Somebody walked by while I was signing the log, but they didn't notice me, of course. TFTC.

Creekside: Claire and I found this cache tonight. Thanks!

Relax for Awhile: A pleasant night for a little father-daughter bonding. Thanks for providing the opportunity.

May 25, 2005

What a View for a Bug Hotel: This was a nice little hike on a clear and balmy morning. Great views! Deafening traffic noise! I was quite curious to hike to the end of the dirt road, but, alas, I'm late for work as it is. I swapped a geocoin for a TB.

Gateway & Portal: FTF!!! 9:15p I solved the puzzle, made the grab, and looked for a place to sign the log. After sitting down, I realized that someone had been watching my every move from the shadows. I attempted to strike up a conversation with him, but he wasn't too talkative, and so I went back to the car. After 20 minutes, he was still right next to the hide, and there was no way to replace the cache. I'll put it back tomorrow morning. Sorry, sorry, sorry to anyone else who goes out tonight to look. I was pretty creeped out. It's suprising the area doesn't have a street light. It probably should. Anyway, TFTC. May 26: 7:30 a.m. Cache is back in place. Sorry for any inconvenience. The coast is now clear...

May 24, 2005

Ryder Park Trail: I swung by this nice, new park on the way home from work. Very interesting. Thanks for showing it to me. It does appear that they will be charging an entrance fee, however.

May 23, 2005

Don't Feed the Ducks: I had to wait out the maintenance guys who were having a long and animated discussion of a serious malfunction in the sprinkler timing system. Note to future finders: Stay on the sidewalk until they get this worked out; the grass is swamp-like! After that, it was a quick find. TFTC.

Day Starting Line GBES ’05 Rally: The second part of the adventure begins...Who was that guy who helped out with getting everyone in starting order? He didn't seem to have a GBES officials' tee-shirt on.

Day Course Challenge 1 GBES ’05 Rally: Away we go!

Day Route Cache 1 GBES ’05 Rally: Our goal was to get all of the day rally caches. So far so good. Hmmm...could we possibly be heading for that bumpy levee again???

Day Route Cache 2 GBES ’05 Rally: I'm going to log this one a find. We were headed towards this cache on the correct side of the canal when we got turned around by 'The Flood'. Whew! A detour on a course that already seemed pretty round-about.

Day Checkpoint Challenge 1 GBES ’05 Rally: After doubling back quite a distance, passing what looked to be some sort of equestrian version of the rally, and crossing that #!$ levee...AGAIN (did we miss the turn off to the easier route, or was it flooded???), things appear to be back on track.

Day Course Challenge 2 GBES ’05 Rally: Hey! I'm getting good at these. I think I did this one in just over a minute.

Day Route Cache 3 GBES ’05 Rally: I can't remember exactly when we started up the canyon, but it was somewhere around here. Pretty flowers! Dangerous rocks!

Day Route Cache 4 GBES ’05 Rally: Lotsa fun going up where we came down last night. I'm still not sure which was scarier. The driver says, 'UP, definitely up was scariest!'

Day Route Cache 5 GBES ’05 Rally: I can't remember exactly where this one was, but we got it.

Day Route Cache 6 GBES ’05 Rally: High speed road caching: It almost felt drive-up micros back home.

Day Route Cache 7 GBES ’05 Rally: We played leapfrog with Team NorSoCal (and others) in this stretch.

Day Route Cache 8 GBES ’05 Rally: Did the Nevada Tourism board put up those signs? Did I tell you I love those guys???

Day Route Cache 9 GBES ’05 Rally: Hey! This is getting a bit boring...can we get back to some off-road stuff?

Day Checkpoint Challenge 2 GBES ’05 Rally: Hey, those porta potties were a good idea. I think we grabbed a bite to eat about this point too. Ever tried to hold a clipboard, work a GPSr, and eat a sandwich on a bumpy road all at the same time? It's tough.

Day Course Challenge 3 GBES ’05 Rally: Kicking butt and taking names.

Day Route Cache 10 GBES ’05 Rally: Hey, crossing that little stream was fun!

Day Route Cache 11 GBES ’05 Rally: Alright, so if you've been reading our logs in race order (not sure if anyone will ever do that...except us), you'll realize that we're feeling pretty good about ourselves through this stretch. Even cocky perhaps. Pride: will I ever learn?

Day Route Cache 12 GBES ’05 Rally: Somewhere around here we passed the team with the flat tire. A couple of the team members were underneath the back where the spare was. The navigator was reading the vehicles' instruction manual. Never a good sign.

Day Multi-Cache GBES ’05 Rally: This cache was the high point of the day rally (literally and figuratively!) With the incredible views, it seemed like something out of the 'Sound of Music' (...only dustier, and with more bugs, a lot more bugs!).

Day Route Cache 13 GBES ’05 Rally: Ahh yes. Lucky number 13. Why did we ever decide to go down that wash??? After walking down to survey the situation, and deciding that it would be okay (we were a little daft by then), we comitted ourselves a course that just never seemed to end. After quite a bit of angst, though, it did end, and we made the grab.

Day Route Cache 14 GBES ’05 Rally: All I remember about this stretch of the race was that I learned the meaning of the word speleology (the study of caves) from Davis Duo.

Day Route Cache 15 GBES ’05 Rally: That guy Doug sure must have loved it up here.

Day Checkpoint Challenge 3 GBES ’05 Rally: We passed through here. I'm sure of it.

Day Route Cache 16 GBES ’05 Rally: I must be turned around. It's the home stretch, but we seem to be heading the wrong direction.

Day Route Cache 17 GBES ’05 Rally: We're getting warmer!

Day Route Cache 18 GBES ’05 Rally: It really seems like we're the only ones still out on the course.

Day Course Challenge 4 GBES ’05 Rally: The course workers were so supportive! Thanks. I'll bet we looked pretty wrung out at this point.

Day Finish Line GBES ’05 Rally: Wow, we made it. Thanks for taking us across that dry lake bed in the car. COOL. With the checkered flag waving and the crowd milling around the finish line, we really felt like champs. What a great experience.

GBES 2nd Annual Navigational Cache Rally: We had a great time, and, for a couple of city slickers, handled ourselves pretty well, thank you very much. Through the race our emotions ran the gamut from anticipation (before the race), exhileration (both day and night multi caches), extreme frustration (I don't know exactly where we were, but it was about 1:30 in the morning), and a fantastic sense of accomplishment (when it was all over). Thanks for all the hard work putting the rally together! Winning a white jeep in the raffle was icing on the cake. This rally really exemplified what I love about geocaching: the opportunity to explore places you'd never visit otherwise, and learn more about yourself in the process.
