mountain view

By: roadrunner5 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Well, we pulled off the freeway for the TB hotel...this one was just another minute or two up the road, and I'm a sucker for a view. Thanks for pointing it out!

"Beacon" of Light in the Lost Hills

By: General Grant & The Mad Dog Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

"Valero" of value is more like it. Toughest part about it was dodging the folks napping in their car. ...the Lost Hills sound like a place I'd like to visit though. Maybe next time around!

End of the Road

By: General Grant & The Mad Dog Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We drove right up to it and made the quick find. There was a truck sitting outside a fence a little ways down the dirt road, but I'm not sure there was even anyone in the cab. The kids enjoyed the trading. TFTC.

The I-5 / Templin Hwy Travel Bug Hotel

By: mmcret Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

On our way home from Disneyland, this one was just the ticket for some restless munchkins. TFTC!

Olive Tree

By: General Grant & The Mad Dog Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Whew! For a moment or two I thought I was going to DNF this cache. Lots of places to look, and fortunately Mrs. mjp303 spotted it. Thanks.

Harris Ranch Micro

By: LarsThorwald Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I found this just moments before a CHP rolled by. My hands smelled really pleasant afterwards! TFTC.

Goldstar Cache

By: Team Dakiba Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

A thankfully uneventful find after what happened at the other one across the street. TFTC.

"Fast Food I"

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Thanks for the smilie on the long trek from Disneyland back to the Bay Area!

I Hate I-5, Sleeping Giants

By: Haicoole Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Just after I palmed the cache, this guy down on his luck walks up and tries to sell me his cell phone. He's broke and just needs a few bucks for gas money to get to Fresno. Either he's a smooth talker or I'm a softie because I gave him $20 and didn't even take the phone. After signing the log and putting the cache back I watched him give the same pitch to another traveller. Sigh. I hope he can live with himself; I know my conscience is clear. TFTC.

You need a break

By: georgeandmary Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Wow! This was one busy parking lot. I accidently bumped another car while opening my door. The guy honked at me, but didn't have the nerve to get out and have a look until I was across the way at the other cache. What a goober. TFTC.

February 18, 2007

It was a fun long weekend in Southern California. The main point of the trip was a visit to Disneyland, but we did sneak in a little caching and I snagged the coveted MEGA event icon (more than 500 attendees at a geocaching event) for my stats page!

Temecula Valley Geocaching Event III

By: Temecula Valley Geocaching Association Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0

6 of us down for winter break from the bay area, doing Disneyland and a little caching! Thanks for the great event!

CornerView Cache

By: Reela and Cat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We found the cache easily, and the kids enjoyed trading in the nice big can. I decided it might be a good idea to cut the visit short when the guy at the house across the street decided to come down to the end of the driveway and watch us with suspicious eyes. Mrs. mjp303 had a better plan, she said , 'Don't worry, honey, we'll just tell him we stopped by to take pictures with the uprooted phone booth!' ...and so we did! Much fun was had by all. TFTC!

Cornerstone4's I-15 Travel Bug Hotel
By: Cornerstone4 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Down in SoCal with the family for winter break at Disneyland, I insisted that at least one day be devoted to caching. Today was it. TFTC!

Beep Beep

By: Cornerstone4 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Hmmm...described as a regular cache with 1 star terrain. I guess we need to learn the local geocustoms! [;)] Fortunately several locals came along and rescued us. I guess it would have helped to have seen 'It'. The one where the little boy says "REDRUM, REDRUM" still gives me the shivers. Thanks for providing a pre-event tour!

Copper Canyon Trail

By: Cornerstone4 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Another entry on our pre-event ammo can tour! Thanks for the little hike and swimming pool parade.

Murrieta Creek Cache

By: Cornerstone4 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

After navigating our way past a pack of kids riding their bikes along a homemade jump track (...and fortuitously hearing several discussing a rope swing...) we found the cache after a short walk. Of course, returning to the car without a swing on the rope was out of the question! TFTC.

Raining People

By: we 3 treasure hunters Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We had spotted this particular type of rain earlier in the day, but by the time we got to the cache, it was too windy for any more. After the find we lumbered on down the road a bit and watched the motocross. TFTC!

What in the World Cache?

By: Ghosthunter Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

It definitely is an item of special significance to geocachers! Thanks for pointing it out. I enjoyed my virtual search and discovery.

Fame

By: trode Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Thanks to everyone who helped and encouraged me on this puzzle. I certainly had help every step of the way, except the actual find, which wasn't tough at all. Since it was so close to home, I'm extremely relieved to get it off my nearest page. I wish I wasn't so obsessive about such things...sigh.

My First Micro

By: Rogue Ramblers Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I took me a long, long time to find the right resource, but when I did, things clicked. Grabbing this one on a Sunday afternoon proves that I'm not a geek. The moves required were definitely jock-like. TFTC.

Not a Fallacy

By: UncleTom Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Ahhh, there we go! Noodling on this one intermittently I finally hit upon the right combination. Finding the cache was a bit challenging since a steady stream of moms was arriving to pick up young'uns from the after-school care center nearby. I just have Sphinx remaining...if you don't put out another one I'm going to go back to work on Fame... [:(] TFTC!

Ask Your Kids #3

By: UncleTom Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I finally buckled down and figured this one out. Wow! I had no idea how involved all of that stuff is. My boys just like to look at the cards...so far. Thanks for an interesting puzzle!

A corner (Traditional cache) Thanks for the quickie on the way to work. It seems that doesn't happen too often these days.

dgreno@3K (Traditional cache) I found it pretty quickly...but it was funny to watch the others who were grubbing around in the dirt for it. Heh.

Will he see his Shadow? Pizza Event (Event cache) It turned out to be a bit of a chore getting accross the San Mateo bridge (an accident on the high rise during rush hour), but I was really glad to have attended this event. Meeting up with cachers is great! and I won a coin in the raffle to boot! TFTE!

February 1, 2007

Aesculus Park (Unknown cache) Great job on your first hide. Confident of my puzzle solution, I arrived at zero and was completely bamboozled. Did I solve it wrong? Were the coordinates bad? Usually your eye is drawn to a logical hiding spot; this one is completely random...and that's what made it interesting! Oh, I was going to suggest that you delete vaccine's FTF log since he was in the park after-hours ...but I had to call him for encouragement...so give him a pass. TFTC.

January 19, 2007

Whimsical Wonders (HMB) (Traditional cache) I was drawing my horse-fish when up drives the same guy who prevented me from getting this cache on my last visit. Amazing. So, I quickly closed things up and went on my way without coloring it properly. Sigh. TFTC.

Movie: GeoTales, Believe it or Not (Unknown cache) I solved this very amuzing puzzle the first night, but had to wait until this afternoon to make the find. Taking the long way home, I travelled down Sharp Park Road, and across Devil's Slide, making a brief stop at 'The Bobcat Hole' in El Grenada. (DNF: I decided not to get my shoes wet!) All the way I could sense the power of 'P' pulling me in! I dropped a TB. Thanks for the cache. Watch the show for yourself!

January 18, 2007

A Few Caches #1 Salt Water View (Unknown cache) I solved the puzzle awhile ago, and have been watching and hoping the cache would come back. A creative hide which I eventually found after eliminating several other more mundane possibilities. Try not to draw too much attention to yourself while you make the find! Thanks for a fun little adventure!

January 13, 2007

Not Under the Bridge (Traditional Cache) 8:37p #70 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This cache gave us a lot of laughs. The Big Cut (Traditional Cache) 8:19p #68 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I found it right away, but it seemed to be frozen shut...either that or my fingers were stiff from the cold. TFTC. mjp303

Gregory (Traditional Cache) 8:07p #67 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This was a really tricky hide to find in the dark. Those LED flashlights are really handy! mjp303

Quit playin' around (Traditional Cache) 7:55p #66 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Fun park, but a truly amazing Christmas light display on the next street over. The fact that we happened along on the 12th day of Christmas was a really lucky coincidence. Thanks! mjp303

Weir (Traditional Cache) 7:02p #62 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Kept telling that dog to keep quiet, but he wouldn't listen. I enjoyed the walk in the dark along the trail. Thanks. mjp303

Kyle's Bridge (Traditional Cache) 6:55p #61 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Our imaginations ran away a bit, but as soon as we realized it was too cold for any self-respecting spider, the find was ours. TFTC. mjp303

One on a Bridge (Traditional Cache) 5:48p #53 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I love the bridge caches! Luckily the cache was in the first place I put my hand. mjp303

Don Salvio Pacheco Adobe (Traditional Cache) 5:35p #52 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I think we actually scared a lady away: She came around the corner to use the ATM while we were searching, slowed, thought better of it, and drove away without getting any cash. I can't blame her; I probably would have done the same thing. mjp303

Up in Downtown (Traditional Cache) 5:27p #51 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. After we spotted the cache, vaccine brought the car around to shield the grab. A classic parking ramp maneuver. TFTC. mjp303

Lucky You! (Traditional Cache) 4:32p #46 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I liked this park, but finding the cache was like a needle in a haystack. Thankgoodness we still had enough daylight. mjp303

Bailey Walk - Clarence meets George (Traditional Cache) 4:11p #45 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Thanks. mjp303

Bailey Walk - George (Traditional Cache) 4:07p #44 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. You're setting us up for a trick on the final cache, aren't you? mjp303

Not Another Ivy Hide (Traditional Cache) 2:48p #40 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Dogs barking, people talking in their backyards or working in their garages, and us, trying to look like we belong. Just a random slice of suburbia. BTW, how in the world did those guard rails get there? mjp303

Fountain of Ute (Traditional Cache) 2:31p #39 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. With 3 of us the searching was faster. Trying to be inconspicuous, I got startled by a pair of golf carts playing NASCAR. TFTC. mjp303

Actually I found it, but I needed Con2W to figure out how to open it. vaccine wouldn't know that though 'cuz that clue had him searching way too high. You should probably replace the cache container since it really is being held together by duct tape. Thanks for a fun one. mjp303

Pot Belly Pig (Traditional Cache) 1:15p #31 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I liked the name of the road this cache was on. Thanks for the smilie. mjp303

Pole Cache (Traditional Cache) 11:22a #19 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. More concrete than nature here, but evidently still popular with the locals. mjp303

Hot Eats Cool Treats (Traditional Cache) 11:07a #18 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. We decided to walk over to this cache from 'Liberty' since the driving and parking was such a challenge. TFTC. mjp303

Liberty For All (Traditional Cache) 11:00a #17 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Con2W's caching sense was amazing today. He had the cache in hand almost before I had started to search. Thanks. mjp303

Bat Cache (a.k.a. Nujawb 3) (Traditional Cache) 10:50a #16 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. vaccine and I agreed that this is our favorite type of urban hide. Thanks for helping us get our recommended daily allowance! mjp303

Olympic Sphere (Traditional Cache) 10:41a #15 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Downtown Walnut Creek sure is busy and crowded! Cool to see the sphere up close. TFTC. mjp303

Cache on Pooh Corner (Traditional Cache) 10:19a #14 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Great views! After finding the cache, we took a minute to survey the territory we planned to visit later in the day. Thanks for the cache! mjp303

Walnut Creek Ca$h (Traditional Cache) 10:11a #13 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This was the first of 2 caches on the longest hike we took during today's numbers run. The views were well worth the effort! Thanks. mjp303

Contra Costa (Traditional Cache) 9:57a #12 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Tricky little hiding spot. Once again, Con2W found it. TFTC. mjp303

Filler up (Traditional Cache) 9:46a #11 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This was a cool spot, and we really enjoyed examining the pumps. Evidently the oldest one (up next to the building) is from 1915. Very cool. We did attract the attention of an employee, who came out to ask what we were doing. Evidently there's been a lot of vandalism. We explained things and showed him the cache since he was unaware of it or if permission had been obtained to place it. You may want to do more to make sure everyone who works there knows what's going on. TFTC! mjp303

Cardiac Canyon (Traditional Cache) 9:42a #10 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Once again a completely full parking lot, and at least a dozen large SUVs circling anxiously. Eventually we go it. mjp303

Arn Haws Pa King (Traditional Cache) 9:24a #9 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. They call that a parking lot? Pathetic. Even on a frigid morning it was full, so vaccine double parked while Con2W and I made the dash and grab. TFTC. mjp303

Iron Horse Trail (IH1) (Traditional Cache) 9:16a #8 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. We waited in the car while Con2W fetched it. The guy's cache sense is amazing! mjp303

Log this cache (Traditional Cache) 9:10a #7 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. A quick find with only moderate muggle traffic. It sounds like this trail gets a lot busier. I'm glad we didn't have to deal with that. TFTC. mjp303

Zebras, Monkeys and Cows (Traditional Cache) 9:08a #6 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. What a strange display. Thanks for pointing it out. mjp303

Music To Our Ears (Traditional Cache) 8:49a #5 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This was the oldest cache we found, and looked that way too! I enjoyed the walk and the view of the creek. TFTC. mjp303

Limit warning (Traditional Cache) 8:35a #4 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Even though it was in the 30's this morning, we had to dodge quite a few muggles enjoying the trail. Since vacccine had played that podcacher song in the car it was no trouble! mjp303

Rock Your World (Traditional Cache) 8:26a #3 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. I chose correctly. What's my prize? Oh, that's right, a smilie. TFTC. mjp303

Memorable Milestones (Traditional Cache) 8:20a #2 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. Thanks for the opportunity to reflect! but it's easy: 76 caches in one day is my new personal record. TFTC. mjp303

Bart: Castro Valley Station (Traditional Cache) 8:00a #1 of 73 on a East Bay marathon with vaccine and Crazyon2Wheels. This was the rendezvous point, and I slipped in a find while we waited in the early morning chill. mjp303

Time spent near the Ford-Temple bike path will... (Traditional Cache)
TFTC! Sorry, I have nothing to contribute to the story. I was a perfect child and never spent any time outside after dark associating with juvenile deliquents.

Hyde and Ivy on the Bank of the Mighty River (Traditional Cache)
Fortunately we had the place to ourselves! I really liked the creative hide technique, and I agree with vaccine that night-time with a flashlight is the best way to spot it. Thanks for the chilly fun. We got a chuckle out of the cache page, too.

Los Gatos Creek - Revisited #2 (Traditional Cache)
I forgot and left my flashlight in the car, so vaccine was pretty much on his own. Oh, that and the fact that the cop slowed down and spot-lighted my car left me pretty distracted.

Sequoia Sempervirus (Traditional Cache)
Simply brilliant. I must have circled the area at least 20 times. Hints and lifelines focused our search, but it was still tough. I'm writing this out: ***Thanks for the cache***.

Doerr n't complain about this! (Traditional Cache)
I fondled a lot of bark, but in the end slunk off frustrated. grrr.

Behind 24 (Traditional Cache)
A cop, a car parked right on top of our zero, and muggles looking even more suspicious than us...what an adventure. Fortunately vaccine had a lifeline.

Hand in Hand (Traditional Cache)
I was starting to worry that we weren't going to be able to find this cache quickly. Several passes around the zero point failed to produce it, but vaccine widened his search and success was ours. It was cold enough that we didn't linger. TFTC.

Along the De Anza Trail 10 - Camden Oak (Traditional Cache)
Chilly, windy night. We were stomping our feet, rubbing our hands together, and failing to find anything in plain sight. Eventually I put my hand on it, and we retreated to the car to sign the log.

Bizarre, vous avez dit bizarre? (Traditional Cache)
I'd call this park full of...potential. Thanks. Allons nous en!

Tis the Season (Traditional Cache)
I liked the suprise! Although because a few months have gone by since it was placed, I was expecting something a little different!

Somewhere in Saratoga (Traditional Cache)
I loved the challenge of this cache: we got within 200 feet a couple of times but could proceed no further. Finally the site gave up it's secrets! Thank goodness for maps, but curse the autorouter! On scene, it was getting dark fast, but fortunately we didn't have to resort to the flashlights. Thanks!

Any Happy Hybrid Rat (Traditional Cache)
Best wishes, even though it's over 2.5 years late. Nothing appropriate to trade, but thanks for leaving a nice big cache for us to find!

Rodeo Creek (Traditional Cache)
I've been caching solo for a while today, but it's good to join up with vaccine as evening approaches. TFTC.

Raynor Park Dragons (Traditional Cache)
Nice park! No issues searching on this cold and windy day. TFTC.

To the Night Bean! (Traditional Cache)
It was right where I expected it to be. I took note of your attachment technique. Thanks for the pointer!

Sunnyvale (Traditional Cache)
A quick find, although I got interrupted by a maintainance man who was certainly wondering what I was doing back there. Thanks.

Stoned (Traditional Cache)
I walked right up to it. Good mojo today I suppose. Thanks.

Sunnyvale Skate Park 2 (Traditional Cache)
Nice park, and being used by a few die-hards on a windy and cool day. The cache is no longer magnetically attached, but is fixed in place. Thanks.

Sunnyvale Technology Museum (Multi-cache)
It was kinda tough for me to stay 'on task' (...at least that's what my first-graders call it. ) Exhibit D has been damaged and is missing, probably a herd of pushy shoppers trying to get the latest gadget. No matter, I was able to finish it off with brute-force. Thanks.

Lakewood Park (Multi-cache)
After working my way between park employees that were cleaning up debris around stage one, I found the old cache at stage 2 as well. Suprisingly, I also found the work ID badge of a cacher I know! Amazingly enough, she found the cache nearly two months ago. Good Luck!

Moffett Park (Traditional Cache)
No Luck for me.

Burrowing Owls (Traditional Cache)
A brisk day for a walk along the bay! I'm feeling a bit concerned for the owls: There's lots of graded earth and construction quite close-by. I hope they're not feeling too threatened...Thanks.

Stevens Creek Marsh (Traditional Cache)
Rainy, windy, cold! The marsh was really full of water; lots of runoff, I suppose. TFTC.

A 16th century cache (Traditional Cache)
Swoop and grab. TFTC!

Bad Luck (Traditional Cache)
I didn't get stopped, but I decided to spend the day caching anyhow. Thanks for the quickie.

13,000 Vehicles Daily (Traditional Cache)
No traffic violations during my visit. I took a TB. Thanks.

Picket's Cache (Unknown Cache)
I found this cache in a pretty good downpour. The only thing stranger was that a man was moving the lawn of the house next door. Fortunately, I was shielded from his view! TFTC.

Big Game 2006 (Traditional Cache)
My New Year's wish is for Stanford to have a better team, but I'm afraid that Jim Harbaugh is not the ticket. Time will tell...TFTC.

ARBO'S GUIDE TO THE PAC-10 SERIES: STANFORD (Traditional Cache) I'd love to see the renovated stadium. Unfortunately they don't leave it open like they used to do when I was a kid. TFTC.

The House that Boyd and Jill Built (Traditional Cache)
True Story: I was in the doctor's office waiting room right before visiting this cache, and the nurse called 'Boyd Smith'. A very distinguished silver haired gentleman gets up to see the doctor. Then I visit the cache and notice that Boyd Smith is the name on the scoreboard. I wonder if it was the same person! TFTC.
