The Swinging Bridge

By: MissTerri & Warriorrider Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Scouting routes for an off-road GWS6 cache run. There were lots of kayakers around today as the water is nice and high. We enjoyed looking at the old bridge and driving the winding road to get there. TFTC.

Secret City

By: geodanimal Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

The rendezvous point for a trip to scout an off-road cache run for GWS6. Thanks for helping me keep up with a personal goal of finding more multi-caches than puzzles. Interesting history, too.

By: The Sierra Hiker and Hikingirl Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Mossy Oak

By: Celtic DreamCacher & Placer Cacher Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

A trip to scout an off-road cache run for GWS6. Mosquito Road is a lot of fun. We loved the trip down to the swinging bridge and back up again. A suprising amount of traffic on this stretch thought. TFTC.

Bikeable?

By: Scoobert Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Repeat after me. Closer is not always better. Closer is not always better. Heh.

Welcome back to Iowa...... (Hill, that is....)

By: Uncle-Al Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Scouting a GWS6 off-road cache run. I love the cemetary caches. It really makes you think about the people who settled the area: their lives, hopes, and aspirations. Thanks!

Uno Sepulcro

By: Lil Devil Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Dead men tell no tales. Evidently, neither do their horses! Thanks for the interesting story and the cache along a very scenic road.

By: Kevarino Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

A trip to scout an off-road cache run for GWS6. Great views from the top while we enjoyed our lunch. I'm sorry the old cache is gone, but happy that there was a replacement there for us to find and log. Thanks!

The Road to Iowa Hill - Wells Fargo Vault

By: The Sierra Hiker Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

So our group is milling about and inspecting the cache site when a local family comes strolling down the road. I think they were quite amused with us. Perhaps the liquid refreshment they were gulping had something to do with it too. [;)] TFTC.

The Road to Iowa Hill - Dinner Tree

By: The Sierra Hiker Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Scouting routes for a GWS6 off-road cache run. Dinner? Where? That sounds really great right now! Oh, we're only 150 years too late? Drat. Cool that the tree still marks the spot. TFTC.

The Road to Iowa Hill - Suspension Bridge

By: The Sierra Hiker Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Scouting routes for a GWS6 off-road cache run. Whew! I thought this was going to be a DNF for our group of 8. We searched for quite some time. Finally ProTechcc got an angle that afforded a clear view. Several of us were probably only inches from a find with our more conventional blind sweeps. Thanks for the challenge. Plenty of campers and kayakers in the vincinity.

The Road to Iowa Hill - Adge Crossing

By: The Sierra Hiker Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Georgetown Final Rest II

By: Species5618 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A trip to scout an off-road cache run for GWS6. There was some discussion whether or not we were going to spend the time to seek out the clues for this find. Although bthomas said that he was just going to take a few pictures, we all ended up thoroughly enjoying the visit. I especially enjoy seeing all the interesting places people came from, and wondered about all the 'unknown' markers. Thanks for the cache.

Cougars Den

By: Forward Company Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Thank goodness we happened on this cache on a Saturday. Tough to teach little muggles that trade fair or don't trade at all lesson, especially in this location. We created a log out of a tardy excuse note. Thanks for the smilie.

California's Lowest Highest Peak

By: Oodles of Noodles & 47Dad47 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

A trip to scout an off-road cache run for GWS6. I needed a cache in Sacramento county, so bthomas suggested this one. Massive construction in the area is an understatement! (See my track.) Things are a lot more fenced in than they used to be. Great views from the top, although it was a bit hazy. Thanks for an interesting hunt!

Washboardy is the word of the day. Oh, maybe dust? Take your pick! TFTC.

Barker Ranch

By: Jabber Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 5.0 Container: Regular

Out with SoCal4x4 Geocachers, this was a primary objective of today's run. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch at the picnic table after touring the cabin and surrounding area. Forty years removed, the place seemed peaceful and sleepy to me, and far removed from any depravity. I was glad to make contact with a famous place in recent history though.

Goler 2

Lego Dan's Death Valley RR cache

By: Lego Dan and Ranger Roger Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

We got one of those buzzing things from the restaurant to hold our spot, and then wandered over to investigate the train. bthomas was a bit worried we might be out of buzzer range, but fortunately we made it back in time. TFTC.

salsberry pass cache

By: mtngirls Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

If not in the park, pretty close, as we saw the welcome sign back down the road a bit. Everything is nice and green now and the view in the setting sun was fantastic. TFTC. We're hurrying on to Badwater.

Virgin River Gorge Earthcache

On our way home to San Francisco after a grand tour that included Moab and Arches NP. Many, many interesting geological features to appreciate! Thanks for pointing out this one.

Grandpa's Improbable Point

By: ForJeppsHunters Difficulty: 5.0 Terrain: 4.5 Container: Regular

I've had my eye on this cache for awhile now. There aren't too many with this unusual D/T combination. In fact all of the rest are inaccessible until much later in the season due to snow. Having said that, I knew I had to have it for my Fizzy Matrix challenge. bthomas and I made a few false starts, first wheeling up the mesa too far east and then too far west. When we arrived at a locked gate I knew it had to be the right place! WSA?? Endangered Bear Claw Poppy?? Of course! We'd have to hike it. Naturally, along the way, we tiptoed around plenty of cryptobiotic soil. The route was pretty straightforward, and we found the cache in good shape after a short search. I was suprised by how rough the terrain is. As advertised, the views are fantastic! I hope this mesa is never developed, but, alas I'm afraid the lower reaches will soon be covered with houses. Thanks for a fun challenge.
