Mosquito City

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Thanks for the introduction to this new trail. Hiking through to Big Basin seems like quite a trek, but I suppose we went nearly as far as that on our loop today. TFTC.

Redwood Jumble

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I was a little winded from the climb up to the cache from the creek, so I decided to catch my breath and take a drink. By the time I got close, all of the excitment was over. TFTC.

Upper Coyote Slog

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

not2be was telling us about his FTF hunt for this cache. Quite an accomplishment if you ask me! With the overgrown trail closing in, I'm starting to wonder if I'll rue the decision to wear shorts. I think a Technu shower is in my future! TFTC.

Bearing Trees

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

With plenty of natural seats closeby, we took a long break in the (somewhat) cool shade. Thanks for pointing out a great trail. We all enjoyed the hike today!

Giant Teeter Totter

By: Michael_SFBA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

There was some initial discussion of whether or not we would have to actually climb up on the teeter-totter to find the cache. Eventually we made the grab at a more sensible elevation. Thanks,

Saguaro Sempervirens

By: Michael_SFBA Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Every bit as impressive as 'Saluting General' over in Purisima! I've got to wonder why the loggers didn't cut these trees down. Was it superstition? Were they too dangerous to bring down? Whatever the reason, we get to appreciate them now! TFTC.

The Peppermint Stick Tree

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

It's pretty clear how the fire attacked the tree, but what I can't understand is why the wood grain would have been twisted like that in the first place. Quite interesting, and worth the little detour we took to find it. TFTC.

Who's That Trip Trapping....?

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I was down playing in the creek when the find was made. Quite a pleasant spot. IIRC, there used to be a cache on the opposite side of the creek in pretty much the same type of hiding spot.

The Sky's This Way

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

An easy walk down from the trailhead, but I knew that we would pay for that descent at the end of the day. Chatting with other members of the group made the time pass quickly! Not too hot at all yet, but the air was quite still. TFTC.

I think I know you!

By: AlphaRomero.com Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

There's a lot I don't know, but I do know a cacher when I see one. Funny how that works! TFTC.

Pescadero Park Sawmill

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

It's interesting what people leave behind. When departing, it seems most think 'Oh, no need to bother with that now, I'll be back soon enough.' ...and then never return. Funny how that works. TFTC.

Camp Pomponio Road Trailhead

By: Michael_SFBA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Your efforts to introduce us to this part of Pescadero Creek park suceeded nicely! A group of 8 gathered here to hike the Tarwater - Pomponio - Coyote Ridge Loop. I wasn't aware of the 'honor camp' nearby, but spent a moment watching a sheriff's deputy close the gate after driving down to make a delivery. TFTC!

Unsafe for Horses

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I guess if there is some sort of spring seeping up out of the ground near here it would be a problem for horses. We were able to tiptoe around the puddles and made a find. TFTC.

Banana Slug Flat

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Quite warm today. I can tell that this climb is going to be quite a challenge for me. Thanks for providing a spot to rest!

Coyote Ridge

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Whew! Huff and puff. That easy downhill trail is comming back to haunt me now! Pretty hike though; thanks for getting me out here.

Tiptoe Log

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I had just come from tiptoeing across the creeek on a fallen log about 6 feet above the water, so this cache was aptly named. Thanks.

Tiptoe Falls

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I wonder if all the people at the falls thought we were a bit strange for sitting back a ways on that log? Well, we had our reasons! Nice group effort keeping the line of sight obstructed while the signing business was done! TFTC.

Old Haul Junction

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This cache was to be the turn around point and way across the creek. Then a new cache popped up, so we had to go get it. Motor Bug and bthomas also realized that this was where the ranger had told them the bridge was out. So our plans got a little diverted, but we were able to find our way back to HQ. TFTC.

Plug Preserve

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Gotcha! Although I did have to time the replacement to fit between the waves of pedestrians passing by. TFTC.

Along the Tartan Trail

By: The Geoides Family Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A busy place! Lots of people hurrying home, but most had enough time to give me a double-take. TFTC!

Belmont Theater

By: NavySparksandTheMrs Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Nice to get back on track after a couple of DNFs over in Foster City. Still, it took me quite a while to find. That's a good one!

Along Polhemus Road #1

By: The Geoides Family Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I watched a doe and her twin fawns come to the stream below for a drink after signing the log. Cool!

Noelle's Birthday Cache

By: astucky Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

My access was from the north, parking on the water tank access road and then contouring across to a point just below the cache. From there it was a relatively short but steep push to GZ. Awesome views of the city and the bay! Thanks for getting me up there!

Watergate

By: Sparkotron LeLe Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I recognized the gate style, but didn't make the connection to Hetch Hetchy until I read the cache page. Thanks for sharing this interesting information!

Spacesonic

By: vaccine Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Erasing a previous DNF. Whew! That's a tricky one. I had to get my nose about 6 inches away before I realized what I was looking at! TFTC.

Half cache (million $ park)

By: JKdog +M Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Cleaning up a previous DNF. I checked a similar hiding spot on my previous visit, but didn't check them all. This time I prevailed. Fortunately all the kiddies were home and I had the place to myself. TFTC.

San Carlos Train Depot

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Thanks for sharing the history and personal memories of these beautiful and interesting buildings! Things definitely change; evidently the way commuters pay for their parking is different now than my previous visit several years ago! TFTC.

This Park

By: Camper 03 and Mrs Camper Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The widget was really bouncing, but then I remembered to calibrate the compass. That got me closer, but I still had to pick up an important clue from the logs. Great camouflage!

Garage Sale

By: soupercamp and halhal Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Very creative! All was quiet on a Sunday evening, and I made my way to the final without interruption. TFTC!

Paraglide Launch - Stables

By: Davey Gravey Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Somehow I thought there was going to be more to it once I got to GZ. You know, kinda like the behive of activity up at Ft. Funson. I suppose the distance from parking rules out most spectators from making the trek. There were dozens of paraglides up in the sky however. Very cool. Several flew overhead as I made the grab. I wondered if they were paying any attention to me or if they were concentrating so completely on staying aloft that I didn't even register. Great views along the coast here. Thanks for bringing me to the location!

Twin Peaks

By: irwinSports Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

A busy day a the top! I had to wait out a couple before I made the grab, and then had another group join me prior to the replacement. Not that I was in any hurry to move on! The views were fantastic, and the breeze was quite pleasant. I spent quite a while watching a hawk float motionless above the ground riding the air current while it searched for prey. What a magnificent sight! TFTC.

Franciscan Complex - Fossils and Ash

By: cmilono Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Not chosen

I hiked down to GZ from Ft. Funston. The beach was quite busy on a gloriously sunny day. I was truely suprised by what I found. Very interesting! Thanks for teaching me about the geological formations of this part of the San Andreas fault.

Los Pechos de la Choca

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

After dropping my Mom and son at the Orpheum for Wicked, I had a few hours to burn. The views were crystal clear, and there were plenty of folks enjoying them. I zeroed out at one end of the concealing structure, but eventually found the cache closer to the middle. I wonder if it has migrated a bit? Thanks for bringing me up to the top of Twin Peaks!

Fort Funston Webcam

By: dgreno (with forman) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

A great day for hang gliding, and I spent a good bit of time watching. Thanks for pointing out this camera, and providing the chance for another smilie in a very interesting place!

Just another pile of....

By: Silly_Hawg Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Last cache of the drive from Ft. Bragg to Wilits. Thanks for getting us onto this pretty road! On to lunch.

Fork in the Road

By: Silly_Hawg Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

We enjoyed the bit of dirt on the way to this cache. Sorry to be leaving the Mendocino coast after a fun weekend of caching and exploring; it's been a blast! The widget was pointing us about 200' into the trees, but we knew that probably wasn't right, and walked right up to the cache in a very 'geo-logical' spot. Interesting how the forest has recovered since clear-cutting. Thanks!

Lost at Sea

By: Silly_Hawg Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

A somber reminder of how dangerous the ocean can be. We enjoyed looking out over the bearths, and could hear harbor seals barking in the distance. TFTC!

Half way?

By: Silly_Hawg Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was searching high and low with no sucess. Finally mrs303 got bored with her book and decided to rescue me. She walked up and found it in the first nook she checked! argggh! It was a pleasure to sign a nice fresh log sheet. TFTC.

The road NOT traveled...anymore?

By: Silly_Hawg Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Large

We noticed a lot of those yellow gates during our travels today. Thanks for getting us on the other side!

Not Just Another Log

By: osuae Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

That's a good one! I love a unique container. TFTC.

Noyo Harbor Secret

By: the5Bucks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Last day of our trip to the Mendocino coast. A bit chilly and damp this morning, but plenty of people out on the jetty. We spent some time watching a trio of characters get into their snorkling gear and then into the water. It seemed they were a bit cold! Thanks for pointing out this harbor entrance!

Hidden Waterfall

By: vallen2 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

A very cool place that I happened across only because of geocaching! I love those discoveries! As we were approaching, a wedding party was just finishing up the ceremony and moving on to the reception. A very memorable spot! Thanks.

Hangin' out at Hidden Valley

By: sweetj Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A couple of cars at the trailhead, but we didn't see anyone else during our short walk to the cache. The fog was quite thick, and we got wet with all of the drops that were falling from the trees. After starting out our search at the wrong tree, we eventually found it several minutes later. TFTC.

Got Dirt?

By: sweetj Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Heard somebody digging dirt, and got plenty of quizical looks. TFTC!

A.D.A .Pg 62

By: asaxist, Humboldt Flier Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I left mrs303 at the visitor center, but ended up being gone a lot longer than either of us expected. Fog and a steep hillside conspired against me, and I ended up wandering all over. Thanks for the backup!

every nook and cranny

By: Two Tracks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I'm a pushover for old cemetaries. Thanks for providing a cache to find as well!

Whale Rock

By: Location Hunters Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

On our way to DeLorme p62, but as we passed by realized that the timing was perfect. What a beautiful beach! It took us several tries to find the correct approach, but eventually we found the path with the least amount of pucker factor and made the ascent. The cache was suprisingly exposed, but it doesn't look like too many people get up on top, so all is well. Great views from up there, and a very memorable adventure. TFTC!

Looking Into the Whale's Mouth

By: dandm Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I've heard a lot about this cache over the years, and was happy to finally experience it for myself. The weather was perfect with hazy filtered sun and light breezes. I think we probably saw all of the same Elk that Geobrowns ran into a week ago, which was quite a thrill. We spent quite some time talking to the park hosts, who were heading out for a new assignment the next day after speding a month at the ranch house. Wouldn't that be a fun way to spend your retirement? I actually thought the drive to the end of the road wasn't too bad. Somehow I was thinking that it was going to be dirt all the way from Garberville. Thanks for getting us into another remo te part of California, and a very scenic one at that! TFTC.

You don't know Jack S*%#$

By: forman Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Interesting to see the logging equipment. We were disappointed to see all the trash strewn about, but happy to find a place stretch our legs for a few minutes. TFTC!
