Cave Rock Trail Head

By: vaccine Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were pretty sure we'd found the correct parking spot, but the first 50 yards of the trail were buried under a carefully placed pile of cut branches. This must be some county supervisor's idea of a good idea to discourage folks from hiking to Cave Rock, huh? (It's not working, BTW!) After searching for a few moments in all of the 1.5 terrain locations, we decided to press on to the Cave Rock cache. In the meantime, a conversation with the cache owner (aren't cell phones great!?!) shed some light on things. Eventually we found the cache about 10' down a steep slope of loose dirt (definitely not a 1.5 anymore!) From the way it was carefully placed, and considering all the disturbance up on the trail, we think some well meaning cacher relocated it. In any case, with authorization from vaccine, the cache is returned to it's correct location. TFTC!

On our way back from the GBES rally, I realized that we were within striking distance of vaccine's two Tahoe area caches. What a great spot with million dollar views! We really felt like we were on the top of the world. People in boats waved hello and passing cars tooted their admiration. The scramble up the rocks in the last few feet was a lot of fun. Plenty of non-cachers have found the ammo can and signed the log, but fortunately everything is fine shape. I tried to conceal it better than I found it, but I think this one's just going to have to rely on the goodwill of folks who are willing to make the effort to climb this rock. Traded a mauison pin for a Lake Tahoe pin, and left a TB. Thanks for showing us this spot!

Exploring Hwy 88, we stopped to enjoy Caples Lake. Plans are in the works to return for an extended stay! TFTC.

What a beautiful spot. We loved the drive up to Carson Pass and the chance to stretch our legs and find an older cache along the way.

There doesn't seem to be any connection between the monument and the associated buildings...strange. Obviously quite a bit of history here though. TFTC.
