LA to Vegas/Vegas to LA swap valt

By: Chrisified Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

No swapping, but close enough to stop for a drive-by. TFTC.

Out in the corner

By: Huggy_D1 and Moose Mob Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Yeah, definitely a corner of a DeLorme page. Since I'm in the sedan on this trip, it was much appreciated. Having travelled Route 66 yesterday, I'm wondering if this place will eventually suffer a similar fate. There's a thought! TFTC.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

By: Rallye Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Thanks for pointing out this interesting spot. I was suprised that there were no fences to keep me out. I did approach a bit to check things out, but figured I better not wander too close. TFTC.

Another Tortoise Themed Cache

By: armynate Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

No live tortises to be seen, but I did step over their fence to find your cache. I suppose they have the good sense to stay out of the sun though. Thanks.

Not Making the Grade

By: CactusKid Co Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I felt fortunate to have made the grade. There were others nearby were attempting to cool off (tough to do in this heat!) before making the attempt. TFTC.

Shopping in Nevada!

By: Moose Mob Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Despite having spent the night in Las Vegas, this was my only NV cache on this trip. Thanks.

F.I.R.M. Tokens at Jackhammer

By: FarTraveled Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Jackhammer Pass. I like that name. Thanks for the DeLorme page!

Ghost of Tommy Trojan

By: mtngirls Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I never met Tommy Trojan, but he sure seemed like a nice fellow. Cache On!

Sandy Valley Trail 9 of 9

By: notsonew2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was hunting DeLorme pages today, and saw this line of caches that nipped a corner. Thanks for getting me off of the well-beaten path!

Sandy Valley Trail 8 of 9

By: notsonew2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Hot, and no one in sight. Hope I don't break down! TFTC.

Sandy Valley Trail 7 of 9

By: notsonew2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Hot and bone dry right now. Any water has long since evaporated from this place. I can't imagine there'd be much for cattle to eat out here anyhow. TFTC.

Sandy Valley Trail 6 of 9

By: notsonew2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I still haven't seen anybody else on this road since I left the interstate. Where does it go? I'll probably never know. Thanks for the caches.

Sandy Valley Trail 5 of 9

By: notsonew2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Okay, time to turn around. I've got to be back in the Bay Area tonight. Love these lonely roads though. TFTC.

Feel The Power

By: DTSpec Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I'd love to get a little dirt under my wheels, but vacation is rapidly ending and I've got to be back in the Bay Area soon. Thanks for pointing the way though.

Motlah's 14/395 Run - Mojave

By: Jackcheese and Motlah Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I needed gas and food. Your cache happened to be nearby. Thanks!

Ler

By: LancerKath Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Out for a drive in the desert. A whole lot of nuthin' (...except me and the geocaches!) Thanks for the hunt.

Foxtails and Softtails

By: d three and cappie g Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Plenty of soft tails, but the foxtails are all gone. This spot is soon to become somebody's service access...if the economy rights itself. Sigh. TFTC.

MOTEL STIX - NIPTON

By: radarsdad Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Sorry, I'm not going to stay. Just passing through. Thanks for the break though.

The Arvin "Y" Bug Hotel II

By: sloigo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Feeling a little queesy after all of the twists and turns down the hill, this turn-off was a good break. Thanks for the chance to stretch my legs.

Blown Engine Cache

By: Boris and Natasha Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

While finding this cache, I saw some folks who had suffered a similar mechanical fate. Probably not all that rare, unfortunately. TFTC.

Happy Harper Haven

By: jeanthebean Adopted by Autoteach Red Lady Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

The autorouter completely failed on this one as it told me to come in from the east along a powerline road. That would have been okay in the Jeep, but today I was driving the Camry. FAIL. Fortunately the signs along Hwy 58 saved the day. Plenty of evidence of water in the vicinity of the cache, including rusty spots on the ammo can, but all of that has long since evaporated in the summer heat. Interesting place though. Thanks for pointing the way.

YELLOWDOG6

By: Team Yellowdog Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Had to stop when I saw the name of the exit! Suprisingly, there was another car in the 'parking' area. Those folks didn't get out into the heat, and I'll bet they thought I was crazy to do so! Thanks for a little stroll in the desert.

Silver Queen

By: Chooper Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

TFTC. I'm not clear on the reason for the name of the cache. Is there a mine nearby?

Lone Butt(e)

By: 1swaslost Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Passing through and grabbing DeLorme pages. Thanks for the cache.

The stinkiest part of Denny's

By: t-townsquad Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Why? Thanks for the smilie though.

St Antony's Cache

By: CAKID Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Caching my way back to the Bay Area. Thanks for the quick stop and diversion through a sleepy little town. It sort of suprised me that the exits are so far removed.

Graffiti Point

By: Xeretnipcs Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Hold on a second. You mean we're NOT in Iraq? It sure seems hot and dry enough! Oh, that's right...too many caches. It must be the good ol' US of A! Thanks.

Buffalo Palms

By: Joshua Tree Bonnie Clyde Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We had already eaten back in Yucca Valley, but it seemed that plenty of folks returning from a weekend of boating were enjoying the place. TFTC!

Mojave Road Crossing at US Highway 95

By: johnislost Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I'd love to run the Mojave Road some day. Thanks for marking the crossing. On to Las Vegas!

Bring a Lawn Chair

By: kawikaturn Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

A quick find early on a Sunday morning. Parking was easy since we had arrived before most of the surfers. We enjoyed watching the fog drift up over the bluff and dodged a steady stream of joggers passing by. Thanks for bringing us to this beautiful spot!

Treasure of the Lin VinLoca

By: Badgerdawg Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I took a quick hike and found the cache. As we were getting ready to leave, A CHP officer pulled up and asked how we were doing. I appreciated his helpfulness; it was not a day to be stranded in the desert! TFTC.

Holy Mound

By: Jaxdad44 and Sunchick Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

We're in the home stretch of a long, hot day between Carlsbad and Las Vegas. Thanks!

Tri-State C

By: Shamik Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I'm just focussing on California caches today. It's a DeLorme challenge thing. Thanks for populating the fringes!

Discovering Logging California's 58 Counties

By: Team Geo-Rangers Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Other

First of all, sorry for the late log...a couple of vacations sandwiched around a hectic week of work have kept me away from the computer. I made the hunt for the final on a blisteringly hot Sunday morning. Fortunately I had the advice of a previous finder, and made my approach from the "easy" side. That was probably a good thing since chuch services were in full swing during my ordeal. Diving into the jungle, it was readily apparent what the hide style would be, but it took quite awhile to check all the potential spots. By that time, I was dripping with sweat, stinging from nettles, covered with dirt, leaves, pollen, spi derwebs, and heaven knows what else. Fortunately I didn't see any snakes! I noticed the remains of a large dead bird (just the wings), and shortly thereafter had the cache in hand. It was definitely a concluding search worthy of my statewide quest, and a fun challenge with lots of great memories. Thanks!

GRAFFITI

By: CARGOLAX Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

The urge to make one's mark must be a universal one! We enjoyed looking at all the evidence along this stretch. Personally I prefer marking my presence via geocaching! TFTC.

"Corporate Oasis"

By: Thewoodser and Rusty_75 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Cool spot! Thanks for pointing it out.

Amboy Lava Flow Dinocache

By: Florian Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We saw the crater through the shimmering heat in the distance. Too hot and a bit out of our way to get up there on this trip, so thanks for an introduction!

Patton's Cadiz Cache

By: 2bj's Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

A hidden gem! I love the places geocaching brings me to see. Thanks for the introduction.

The Old Road

By: olsenr Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

Didn't take your advice, and just stopped along the current road. Close enough really. That's what flashers are for, aren't they? TFTC.

Pole Whole

By: Xeretnipcs Tassieworfsky Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

The cache was close to a shady parking spot, which was good. We finished our fast food from across the street and found your cache. Thanks!

Kick up your feet!

By: In Pursuit of Cache Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I love the shoe trees! Thanks for marking this one.

Fence Line Cache

By: mikeparr01 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

A quick find, but I had a ache in my neck after having to reverse it for a quarter mile along that berm to get out. TFTC.

"Gnow Way Out!" Travel Bug Motel

By: Gnome007 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Drove right up to it, and dropped off a TB. TFTC.

Morongo Grade

By: Joshua Tree Bonnie Clyde Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Headed up the hill. I got pinned behind a loaded tanker truck back down at the light so just decided to enjoy the scenery and find a cache. Interesting rock formations. Thanks!

Bugs Eye View

By: Wheeler Dealers Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

We watched the shimmering heat above the wind turbines, but only for a second, since the frosty AC in the car was much more inviting. TFTC.

390

By: Joshua Tree Bonnie Clyde Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Heading to Las Vegas via Amboy and Route 66. Thanks for the quickie along the way.

State Line CAL-NV

By: johnislost Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Coming from the south. Goodbye rough and bumpy road; Hello smooth! TFTC.

Beep! Beep!

By: Terra Girl Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

We found the cache container laying on its back like a stranded tortise: exposed and vulnerable. After signing the log, we returned it to a proper orientation. Thanks for sharing the history of this interesting place!

"Oh Well"

By: Tassieworfsky Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Interesting back story. Thanks for sharing it. I was amused to see the old and new versions of the CDOT buildings across the street from each other. I suppose it was just easier to start fresh, huh? The roof above the well is quite flimsy. (I know, I tried searching up there!) Hopefully someone will maintain this bit of history. TFTC.

Cloride

By: Xeretnipcs Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Nearly burned my fingers retrieving the cache! HOT today. (No Duh, right?) Thanks for pointing out an interesting place.
